DORIS: Love somebody, yes, I do
Love somebody, yes, I do
Love somebody, yes, I do
I love somebody but I won't say who
Love to be his baby doll
If he kissed me I
wouldn't mind at all
BUDDY: I love somebody, yes, I do
Love somebody, yes, I do
Love somebody, yes, I do
Love somebody but I won't say who
Don't know why she acts so shy, she oughta know I wouldn't dream of even hurtin' a
fly
Hope she doesn't pass me by 'cause if she did I'd die, I know I'd die
BOTH: I love somebody, yes, I do

The song "Love Somebody" by Doris Day and Buddy Clark is a duet wherein each singer expresses their feelings towards someone they love but won't reveal their identity. Throughout the first verse and chorus, both singers repeat the phrase "Love somebody, yes, I do" and suggest physical qualities they find attractive in the person they are referring to. In subsequent verses, they continue to express their love and hope that the object of their affection reciprocates it.
The song is playful and light-hearted, with both singers engaging in witty banter and teasing each other about their identity. They pretend not to know who the other person loves, even though it is obvious that they love each other. The chorus of "Love somebody but I won't say who" reinforces the theme of secrecy and the playfulness of their interactions. Overall, the song is an endearing love duet that showcases the charm and vocal abilities of Doris Day and Buddy Clark.

Sadly, Buddy Clark died in a plane crash less than a year after this song came out. His plane ran out of fuel just short of the airport returning from the Michigan-Stanford football game on October 1, 1949. Clark was the only one of the six passengers on board to die. Clark's only child a daughter died less than a year later (age 7) when she was struck by a car. He was only 37 at the time of his death. He could have easily lived 40 or 45 more years. Imagine how big a star he would have been.

Thanks for that, I was wondering why I'd never heard of him before- someone with such a wonderful voice-it's because he died so young. What a sad tragedy. His poor wife...

That's so sad.
Yes a real tragedy and so hard on his wife to have such awful losses. :'(

Buddy was a Boston native !

actually his plane crashed at the intersection of Beverly Blvd. and Alvarado St. in Los Angeles, which is miles from the Los Angeles airport. His wife then died at age 39, after remarring for a 3rd time to the producer of the James Bond films (Albert Broccoli).

My favorite Doris Day song. What an innocent era then!
Eclipse Solar 83
Not innocent, better and more pure. I cringe when i look to the times of today. What a decadence and aberration.
