Like cliff burton, when randy passed, ozzy and metallica's sound was never quite the same. That classical, yet hard edged rock aspect died with rhoads. Ozzy has worked with many great musicians, but rhoads to him, was like page to plant. I have noticed that after years of being an ozzy fan. That was one musical wound that never healed.

I'm 66 years old. I've been playing guitar since I was 14. I've seen and heard thousands of guitar players and solos. This solo on Mr. Crowley is probably the best composed guitar solo I've ever heard. Every note is wired to the chord. The legato is so smooth, and the wild bend still blow me away, no matter how many times I've heard and played it. No matter how old or how good I get, I'll never get it to sound like Randy. But then, nobody can. He was one of a kind and we lost him all too soon like so many other great musicians who died much too young, going back to Buddy Holly.

The way that Randy passed must have been so unbelievably tragic for Ozzy. I can't imagine what it was like in his shoes right in the middle of a tour losing the greatest thing that ever happened to him. People don't realize how down Ozzy was before he met Randy and how Randy changed Ozzy's life and turned him around. Randy was a one in a BILLION. A cosmic anomaly encoded into a child prodigy. He shaped what came after for music and classical music in metal. To this date, there has been no one like him. He combined technicality, speed and feeling into his compositions. But what was most interesting were his compositions in themselves. They told stories. That is the pinnacle musical craft and Randy did it better than anyone. An immeasurable loss. Strangely, his work in Quiet Riot was almost pale in comparison. Like night and day. His alignment with Ozzy brought out his best work so we can thank Ozzy for giving him the creative freedom to give us these masterpieces.

Came out here to check out Randy on what was the last time he played in concert on this day so many years ago. Ozz definitely loved Randy... I just wish he had the balls to make Sharon put out the professionally filmed concerts that's a fact that she had taken on the Blizzard and Diary tours. It's such a freakin shame how little clear footage there is of Randy that exists out here. It's so infuriating knowing the film's exist yet they won't release them. Bob Daisley also has live recordings and videos of Randy... he's posted bits and pieces of the recordings on his website but also won't release what's called The Holy Grail. Pretty sure it's for monetary reasons but after all these years it's fuckin pathetic how they hold onto them and not share them with the world!! 😓
