Take Me Home
Douwe Bob Posthuma Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The wind carries her perfume through an open door,
into a corner street cafe.
And she's to close for comfort.
but for holding she's too far away.
And the days are growing shorter
as the nights are oh so long.
Since she's been gone I draw my strength
from memories and melodies,
that's how I wrote this song.

And take me home Johnny,
cause I can't take to see her with another guy.
And isn't it funny it seems like yesterday
when she told me her love was mine.
But she's to cool for lovin'
and she's to cold I've learned.
She's too hard to handle,
she's too hard I'll burn.
And I went out in the fields today,
to scream out loud and call her name.

You wanna fly, I wanna bound.
The less you give, the more I want.

Overall Meaning

The first few lines of "Take Me Home" by Dutch singer-songwriter Douwe Bob Posthuma describe a scene in which the singer catches a whiff of a familiar scent that reminds him of a past lover. He is sitting in a café and can't help but feel uncomfortable because the thought of her being close yet far away at the same time is unbearable. As the days grow shorter and the nights get longer, he finds himself drawing strength from memories and melodies. This is what inspires him to write this song.

The chorus of the song has the singer pleading to Johnny to take him home. The reason being that he can't stand to see his former lover with another man. He remarks how incredible it is that it wasn't too long ago when she professed her love for him. Nevertheless, now she's too cool for love and too cold for his liking. He suggests that she's too hard to handle and he'll burn if he tries to be with her. It seems to be a self-aware moment for the singer, as he lashes out in the fields in frustration. He laments about their differences and how he wants to stay close while she wants to fly away. He yearns for more from her but finds that the less she gives, the more he wants.

@stynexSP

Zoveel talent in Nederland, dat blijkt maar weer. Allemaal goede zangers bij dit programma, maar er is er één de beste en dat is Douwe ;)

@melco18

@TheSupereefje

Je bent geweldig! Het enige waar ik op wachtte was het terugkomen van het Take me home Johnny! En de reden... Het is zooo mooi dat het te snel afgelopen is. Het refrein raakt me in mijn ziel!!
