Feels Like Winter
Down Here Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't say what brought me down this far
It's complicated
Face down and bleeding from this war
Could you forget about figuring me out
And be glad I made it
From face down and bleeding from this war
From this war, from this war
[Chorus]
And it feels like winter
On a perfect summer day
If I convinced my heart to believe my mind
It might just go away

I can't say the last time I really smiled
It takes a lot now
When you're face down and bleeding from a war
Well I know exactly where I've been
And I can't go there again
I need a lot more, I need a lot more than thoughts
I need your touch in my war

[Chorus]
When it feels like winter
Would You come and save the day
When You touch this heart
I know You really love me
And You'll never go away

And it feels like winter
On this perfect summer day
'Cause You convinced my heart to know You really love me

It might just go away
Might just go away

"Feels Like Winter" by Down Here is an emotional song about the pain of war and the struggle to find peace and happiness. The song opens with the singer reflecting on their current state of being, face down and bleeding, feeling as though they are fighting a war they can't escape. The lyrics reveal that this situation is complicated and has brought them down far. The chorus is a powerful metaphor for the mix of emotions that the singer is feeling. Even on a beautiful summer day, it feels like winter due to the emotional turmoil they are experiencing. They long for peace and to be able to forget about their troubles, but it's not something they can simply will away.

The lyrics suggest that the singer is struggling to find happiness and that even smiling is difficult now. They know where they have been and know they can't go back to that place again. They need more than just thoughts to lift them up, they need someone to touch them and be with them in their struggle. The second chorus is a plea to someone to help them save the day and to touch their heart, to remind them that they are loved and that this love will never go away. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the realization that love can be the key to overcoming even the darkest times.

Warn your warmth to turn away
Here, it's December every day (I like that)
Press your lips to the sculptures
And surely, you'll stay (love like winter)
For of sugar and ice
I am made, I am made

[Chorus]
(It's in the blood
It's in the blood)
I met my love before I was born
(He wanted love
I taste of blood)
He bit my lip, and drank my war
From years before, from years before

[Verse 2]
She exhales vanilla lace
I barely dreamt her, yesterday (yesterday)
Read the lines in the mirror through the lipstick trace
(Por siempre)
She said, "It seems you're somewhere far away," to his face

[Chorus]
(It's in the blood
It's in the blood)
I met my love before I was born
(She wanted love
I taste of blood)
She bit my lip, and drank my war
From years before, from years beforeBridge]
Love like winter, oh-oh, oh-oh
Love like winter, winter
Three, four

[Chorus]
(It's in the blood
It's in the blood)
I met my love before I was born
(He wanted love
I taste of blood)
He bit my lip, and drank my war
From years before, from years before

Listened to this album in 2007.

I was probably only 10 years old. My family moved across Canada over the summer. I bought this album at a Walmart with my own bottle money/allowance. I had a cd walkman my brother gave me.

We moved back across the country again. But it was in the middle of winter.

I'll never forget listening to this album while driving through the Rocky Mountains.

I turn 25 in two months. I still listen to this album. :)

Fun fact: I was Adam Carson's Uber driver yesterday, and ironically enough, I was listening to Leaving Song Part 2 & Love Like Winter on the way towards picking him up. We talked about Tesla (I drive a Tesla Model 3), CM Punk using Miseria Cantare in AEW, and he even gave me a pair of his drumsticks to take home. Stand up guy. I quit Uber right after; it would be quite the story to tell my kids and grandkids how I was an Uber driver at some point in my life and the very last passenger I ever served on Uber was Adam, one of my heroes from AFI. Love ya Adam, love ya Davey, love ya Jade, love ya Hunter!!!! Thank you for everything and molding me into the person I've become today!

@babydollsparkle1236

That's awesome. Was Adam hot in person?

@Nodes805

Back Jan 2017 AFI had an album release at Amoebas in Los Angeles.. I went to the back to use the restroom and suddenly Jade opens the door to use the pisser next to me.. I hollered Oh Shit It's Jade! Dude is tall AF atleast next to me

@danypunk09

Ha - About to turn 61 and just discovered this band. Better late than never...

Update: This still sounds great to me, as I turn 64. Advice from an old man: Don't ever let that number define you. You can stay young inside if you keep your mind open. And, listen to your children's (and grandchildren's) music without saying 'it was better in my day.' They will appreciate it, and you may just discover something new that you absolutely love.

@patrickwatkins6616

They put on a great live show if you ever catch them on tour

@racnmiller

Have you ever given HIM (that's the band's name) a listen? You might enjoy them as well. I suggest Killing Loneliness. Or Wings of a Butterfly. Both good songs by HIM.
