Dr. Alban (born August 26, 1957 as Alban Nwapa in Nigeria) grew up listening to Fela Kuti and James Brown. At age 23, he began studying dentistry. In order to be able to finance his university studies the music-loving medical student started making his own music. During this time Alban worked as a DJ in the well known Stockholm club 'Alphabet Street'. Very quickly his name became widely known, especially since Alban often sang to the records he put on the turntable as a DJ. DJ René couldn't help but notice him and so the highly intelligent medical student was discovered. But first Alban finished his studies and even opened his own dentistry practice.
In 1990, he met Denniz PoP from the SweMix label. Alban laid aside his dentist's drill and realised his dream. Together with Denniz and Rap-Queen Leila K, his first record, Hello Africa - his declaration of love for his African home - broke all records. Alban Nwapa became Dr. Alban. His debut-album Hello Africa sold roughly 1 million copies world-wide.
One year later this success was surpassed by the second album One Love. 1.6 million singles of the song It's My Life were sold.
The album immediately sold over 1.7 million units. Then followed the albums Look Who's Talking and Born In Africa. All in all, Dr. Alban can look back on world-wide sales of over 5 million albums and over 6 million singles, which resulted in 7 times Silver, 30 times Gold and 30 times Platinum. His hit No Coke was even used to illustrate an anti-drugs campaign in Sweden.
After a re-release of No Coke, Dr. Alban confirmed his Euro dance style with his hits Look Who's Talking and Let The Beat Go On.
He created his own record company 'dr.records', on which he released Born in Africa, the first CD recorded completely in his studios. He became the producer of many artists such as La Cream.
More recently, his voice was featured on Sash!'s single Colour The World.
In 2000, he released the album titled Prescription.
In 2002 Dr. Alban featured Yamboo to release a remix for Sing Hallelujah!.
In 2007 Dr. Alban released the album titled Back To Basics.

Lullaby
Dr. Alban Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I don't got no alibies
Why you looking at me like that
Like I did something wrong
You know I am the one
Who comes back
Bitch I think
I try so hard
Then I cry
Try to keep me sane
All the time yeah
Eat your ass
Then say goodnight
Yeah
Everyday like this dream
Oh Yeah
Stuck in this lucid dream
Yeah
It all feels the same
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Hide with no disguise
Your little enterprise
We sing the best there ever was
You sing to slow to copy us
Your little lullaby
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Me in the middle
Yeah
And you tiddling with my fiddle
Yeah
You and the girls
All chicks on me
1 2 3
Lick lick tug tug
Give me a little
Uh uh
Don't know whether if this will blow up
But I sing it anyway
It takes the pain away
Kiss my ass now
I eat yours
Stay with me
That is for sure
Dr. Frenchfry pulling bitches
I out of put your mom in the kitchen
Sing me a lullaby
Put me to sleep no melatonin
I am out here pissing and floating and toating
These bitches in a trailer
So I can have them later
Mrs. Spater
Why you looking at me that way
You know I be fucking bitches all day
Stuck in this lucid dream
Yeah
It all feels the same
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Hide with no disguise
Your little enterprise
We sing the best there ever was
You sing to slow to copy us
Your little lullaby
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Ready
1 2 3
Here we go
This lucid dream
Yeah
It all feels the same
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Hide with no disguise
Your little enterprise
We sing the best there ever was
You sing to slow to copy us
Your little lullaby
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Stuck in this lucid dream
Yeah
It all feels the same
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Hide with no disguise
Your little enterprise
We sing the best there ever was
You sing to slow to copy us
Your little lullaby
Yeah
Your little lullaby
Stuck in this lucid dream
Yeah
The lyrics of Dr. Alban's song "Lullaby" present a complex and multi-layered depiction of inner struggles, relationships, and a sense of being trapped in a cycle of emotions. The opening lines, "I'm stuck in this lullaby, and I don't got no alibis," suggest a feeling of being confined or stuck in a repetitive pattern of behavior or thoughts without any excuses or explanations. The singer seems to be introspective and self-aware but also defensive, asking why they are being judged as if they have done something wrong.
The next lines shift the focus to a confrontation or disagreement with someone, possibly a partner or someone close. The line "You know I am the one who comes back, bitch I think you are what is wrong" indicates a power dynamic and a struggle for control or dominance in the relationship. There is a sense of frustration and defiance in the tone, with the singer asserting themselves but also feeling the weight of the situation.
As the lyrics delve deeper into the emotions at play, there is a mixture of vulnerability and resilience expressed. The lines "I try so hard, then I cry, try to keep me sane all the time yeah" reveal a struggle to maintain stability and sanity amidst inner turmoil. The reference to eating ass and saying goodnight, as well as the mention of a dream-like state, suggests a blur between reality and fantasy, possibly hinting at escapism or a desire to break free from constraints.
The later verses continue to explore themes of desire, pleasure, and defiance, with provocative imagery and language used to convey a sense of rebelliousness and defiance against societal norms. The references to sexual encounters, power dynamics, and defiance against authority or expectations add layers of complexity to the narrative. Overall, the lyrics of "Lullaby" by Dr. Alban blend introspection, defiance, and a yearning for escape, creating a compelling portrayal of inner struggles and interpersonal dynamics.
