This single's title harkens back to Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's classic smash hit "Nuthin' But a "G" Thang" from Dre's 1992 solo debut The Chronic in which Snoop Dogg instructs listeners at the end of the chorus to, "just chill, 'til the next episode," which in fact did not refer to this single but its predecessor, a leftover song from 1993 originally recorded for Doggystyle, but unincluded in its final version.[1]
The song's main sample interpolates David McCallum's "The Edge," borrowing from a brief segment at the beginning of the song, a phrase that is not repeated elsewhere in the song.
The song was sampled by R&B trio City High for their 2001 hit "What Would You Do."
It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2001 for Dre and Snoop. The award, however, went to Dre and Eminem for "Forgot about Dre".
The edit released for radio and music channels was heavily edited and had many re-recorded lines.
Barry Bonds used the instrumental section before the first vocals as his plate appearance music music for a period of time during the 2000s.
André Romell Young (born February 18, 1965 in Compton, California), better known by his stage name Dr. Dre, is an American record producer, rapper, actor and record executive. He is the founder and current CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and a former co-owner and artist of Death Row Records.
He was a founding member of the influential rap group N.W.A., which popularized the use of explicit lyrics in rap detailing the violence of street life (also known as Gangsta rap). He has also produced albums for and overseen the careers of some of the biggest stars in (mostly) rap music, including 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, G-Unit, The Game, Nate Dogg, Busta Rhymes, and Eve. With tens of millions of records he has produced sold worldwide (including over 65 million with Eminem alone[1]), he is widely regarded as one of the most popular and powerful figures in rap music of all time.
Musically, as a producer he is credited as a key figure in the creation and popularization of West Coast G-funk, a style of rap music characterized as synthesizer-based with slow, heavy beats. G-funk dominated the U.S. rap charts in the period of 1992–1996, and is still considered one of the major living styles of hip hop today.
His stage name "Dr. Dre" was derived from his nickname and that of his favorite basketball athlete, Julius "Dr. J" Erving.
Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr.[1] (born October 20, 1971), better known professionally as Snoop Dogg and previously Snoop Doggy Dogg, is an American rapper, record producer, and actor. Snoop is best known as an MC in the West Coast hip hop scene, and for being one of producer Dr. Dre's most notable protégés. His catch phrase is "fo' shizzle, ma nizzle", meaning, "for sure, my nigga". That style of slang was invented by Frankie Smith and The Gap Band in the early eighties, and popularized in part by fellow rapper E-40,[2] much of which is simply derived by adding an "izz" or "-izzle" sound to the end of a word.
His mother nicknamed him "Snoopy" as a child because of the way he dressed and because of his love of the cartoon Peanuts; he took the stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg when he began recording. He changed his name to Snoop Dogg in 1998, when he left his original record label Death Row Records and signed with No Limit Records. But he still can be called Snoop Doggy Dogg, which he does in his songs, or by other rappers.

Deep Cover on the incognito tip
Killing motherfuckers if I have to, peeling caps too
'Cause you niggas know I'm coming at you
I guess that's part of the game, but I feel for the nigga
Who think he just gonna come and change thangs
With the swiftness, so get it right with the quickness
And let me handle my business, yo
Until I get the nigga maxing at the top
(I hope you get his ass 'fore he drop)
Kingpin kicking back while his workers slang his rocks
Coming up like a fat rat
Big money, big cars, big bodyguards on his back
So it's difficult to get him
(But I got the hook up with somebody
Who knows how to get in contact with him)
Hit him like this and like that
Let em know that I'm looking for a big fat dope sack
With ends to spend, so let's rush it
If you want to handle it tonight, we'll discuss it
On a nigga's time, and a nigga's place
Take my strap just in case one of his boys recognize my face
'Cause he's a sheisty motherfucker
But I gives a fuck, 'cause I'm going Deep Cover
Yeah, and you don't stop
('Cause it's 1-8-7 on a undercover cop)
Yeah, and you don't stop
('Cause it's 1-8-7 on a undercover cop)
Creep with me, as I crawl through the hood
Maniac, lunatic, call me Snoop Eastwood
Kicking dust as I bust, fuck peace
And, the motherfuckin punk police
You already know I gives a fuck about a cop
So why in the fuck would you think that it would stop?
Plot, yeah, that's what we's about to do
Take yo' ass on a mission with the boys in blue
Dre (what up Snoop?) Yo, I got the feeling
Tonight's the night like Betty Wright, and I'm chilling
Killing, feeling, no remorse, yeah
So lets go straight to the motherfucking source
And see what we can find
Crooked-ass cops that be getting niggas a gang of time
And now they wanna make a deal with me
Scoop me up and put me on they team and chill with me
And make my pockets bigger
They want to meet with me tonight at seven o'clock (so what's up nigga?)
What you wanna do? (What you wanna do?)
I got the gauge, a Uzi, and my motherfuckin twenty-two
So if you wanna blast, nigga we can buck 'em
If we stick 'em then we struck 'em, so fuck 'em!
("I can feel it!")
Yeah, and you don't stop
('Cause it's 1-8-7 on a undercover cop)
Yeah, and you don't stop
('Cause it's 1-8-7 on a undercover cop)
Six-fo'-five was the time on the clock
When me and my homey belled in the parking lot
The scene looked strange and it felt like a set up
(Better not be, 'cause if it is they getting lit up!)
Oh - here they come from the back in they 'llacs
I'm checking for the gats they strap, so what's up, black?
(Chill, let's hear the deal
If it ain't up to what you feel then grab your steel)
Right, so, what you motherfuckers gonna come at me with?
Hope you ain't wanting none of my grip
'Cause you can save that shit (guess what they told me?)
"We give you 20 G's if you snitch on your homey
We'll put you in a home, and make your life plush
Oh yeah, but you got to sell dope for us."
Hmmm, let me think about it
Turned my back and grabbed my gat
And guess what I told him before I shot it:
"If you don't quit, yeah, if you don't stop, yeah
I'm letting my gat pop, 'cause it's 1-8-7 on a undercover cop!"
The song "Deep Cover" by Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dog is a portrayal of the duo's criminal lives in the African-American community of Los Angeles. The lyrics describe the life of an undercover police officer who is investigating a dangerous crime syndicate. At the start of the song, the singer expresses his determination to take down the syndicate by any means necessary. He describes his willingness to kill and peel caps in order to achieve his goal, hinting at the sense of danger and adrenaline pumping through his veins. The singer also expresses sympathy for those seeking to change the status quo, hinting at the system's inherent injustices.
The second verse is delivered by Snoop Doggy Dog and opens with his trademark phrase 'Creep with me, as I crawl through the hood.' He portrays himself as a maniac and a lunatic, who doesn't give a damn about the police. Snoop also expresses his willingness to engage in violence against the police, pointing to the historical tensions that have emerged between the African American community and law enforcement. The third verse is delivered by Dr. Dre and sees him collaborating with Snoop to take down the corrupt police officers. The pair swindle and double-cross the officers in a tense showdown. Overall, the song serves as a gripping account of the lives of those living within the underbelly of Los Angeles society.
