Dr. John began making his own idiosyncratic music in the 1960s. Along with Professor Longhair, Dr. John is heir to the rich New Orleans tradition. He is perhaps best known for "Right Place, Wrong Time", an international hit in 1973, reissued and used on soundtracks many times since.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, his professional musical career began as a session musician in New Orleans in the 1950s. Early on he also played guitar and was often known as Mac Rebennack. He switched to the bass ("the lowest time of my life"), and then the piano after his index finger was nearly shot off protecting his bandmate and longtime friend Ronnie Barron. He gained fame beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s, with music that combined New Orleans-style rhythm and blues with psychedelic rock and stage shows that bordered on voodoo religious ceremonies, including elaborate costumes and headdress. For a time he was billed as Dr. John, The Night Tripper. The name "Dr. John" came from a legendary Louisiana voodoo practitioner from the start of the 19th century.
Dr. John has also done vocals for Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits' "Luv dat chicken..." jingle, as well as the theme song ("My Opinionation") for the early-1990s television sitcom Blossom. His movie credits include Martin Scorsese's documentary The Last Waltz (in which he joins The Band for a performance of his song "Such a Night") and Blues Brothers 2000 (in which he joins the fictional band The Louisiana Gator Boys to perform the song "New Orleans"). In the 2009 Disney film The Princess and the Frog, Dr. John sings the opening tune, "Down in New Orleans".
In January 2008 Mac Rebennack, Dr. John, was inducted into The Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame.
Candy
Dr. John Lyrics

Some say it's honey and the bee,
Well sit right down and let me tell you
What my love is to me.
"Candy"
I call my sugar "Candy"
Because I'm sweet on "Candy"
He/She understands me,
My understanding "Candy"
And "Candy"'s always handy
When I need sympathy
I wish that there were four of him/her
So I could love much more of him/her
He/She has taken my complete heart,
Got a sweet tooth for my sweetheart
"Candy"
Its gonna be just dandy
The day I take my "Candy"
And make him mine all mine
Mine
The song "Candy" by Dr. John is a classic love song that speaks of the sweet and intoxicating feeling that love brings. The lyrics are simple yet profoundly beautiful as they describe the sweet nature of love in a unique and compelling way. The song starts off by mentioning how some say that love is sweet as a rose or honey and the bee, but the singer argues that love is more like candy to them. The singer's love interest is named 'Candy' and they call them that because they are sweet on them and 'Candy' is sweet on them too.
The singer goes on to describe 'Candy' as their understanding love interest and always there for them in times of need. They express the desire to have more of 'Candy', wishing there were four of them so they could love them even more. The singer has given their heart to 'Candy', and they have a sweet tooth for them. The lyrics convey their longing to make 'Candy' theirs completely, and the song ends on a hopeful note that one day, they will make 'Candy' theirs.
Overall, the lyrics of "Candy" by Dr. John are a beautiful expression of love and how one person can bring so much sweetness and joy to another's life. The song's infectious rhythm and the lyrics make it a classic love song that stands the test of time.

Dr. John is the master. The saxophone stylings of David (Fathead) Newman alone are worth the time spent with this song
