Forgotten by death
Dragon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Shadows, fog
Sign of the fall
A dwarf, a face-a monster
Without form

You, son of void
Eyes in decay
The dust in throbbing
With dead life

Forgotten by death
You've become a thing
A relic
Forgotten by death
It's horrid not to be able to die

Eternal life
Forgotten
Where is death

Tangled in darkness
Forgotten
A blind sin

Catacombs
On the Tombs
You've built your grave

You long for fire
That brings you
Salvation

Only one desolate world
Only one home uprooted
Only one shadow behind
Only the desperate moan

Forgotten by death
Tell them after thousands of years

Forgotten by death
A witness of the age of doom

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the Dragonโ€™s song โ€˜Forgotten by deathโ€™ describe a character who has become a relic of its former self due to the curse of eternal life. The first two lines, โ€œShadows, fog, Sign of the fallโ€ allude to how the curse has turned the characterโ€™s life into a shadow of its former self and how it has lost its way. The third line, โ€œA dwarf, a face- a monsterโ€ refers to how the character may have become disfigured over the years, and how its appearance may now be compared to that of a monster.

The following lines, โ€œYou, son of void, Eyes in decayโ€ reveal the characterโ€™s despair and how it is now living in a world that feels empty and meaningless. The character is experiencing immense pain as can be seen in the phrase โ€œThe dust in throbbing with dead lifeโ€. Finally, the chorus โ€œForgotten by death, You've become a thing, A relic, Forgotten by death, it's horrid not to be able to dieโ€ tells us that the curse of eternal life is a punishment worse than death โ€“ itโ€™s torture. It is something that has turned the character into a thing, an immortal thing that lives forever, and not being able to die is a fate worse than death.
