These Days
Drake Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been out walking
I don't do too much talking these days
These days
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things, that I forgot to do

These days
I've met some women
I wish I had resisted these days
These days
These days I seem to think about
How I have failed, to change all of my ways

These days

Yeah, I had a lover
Don't think I'd risk another
These days
These days
And if I seem to be afraid
Just listen to the life I've made in songs

These days

I've stopped the dreaming
I don't do too much scheming
These days
These days
I sit inside a chauffeur car
With windows down and count the stars

Overall Meaning

In Drake's song "These Days," the lyrics suggest a sense of introspection and reflection on the singer's current state of mind and life choices. The opening lines, "I've been out walking, I don't do too much talking these days" conveys a withdrawn and introspective demeanor, indicating that the singer has been spending more time reflecting on their thoughts rather than engaging in idle chitchat. The repetition of "these days" throughout the song emphasizes a focus on the present moment and a recognition of how circumstances have changed.

The lyrics continue by expressing regret and contemplation about past actions. The line "I seem to think a lot about the things that I forgot to do" implies that the singer is dwelling on missed opportunities and regrets. This introspective perspective is further emphasized in the following lines, "I've met some women, I wish I had resisted these days." The singer reflects on past encounters with women, acknowledging that they should have exercised better judgment or restraint. This introspection is a result of recognizing personal failures and the need for change.

The lyrics also touch upon the idea of emotional vulnerability. The verse "Yeah, I had a lover, don't think I'd risk another" suggests that the singer has experienced heartbreak or disappointment in a previous relationship and is hesitant to open themselves up to that vulnerability again. It implies that the singer has become more guarded and cautious. The lyrics further reinforce this emotional guardedness with "And if I seem to be afraid, just listen to the life I've made in songs," hinting at the singer's vulnerability expressed through their music.

The final verse of the song conveys a sense of resignation and acceptance. The line "I've stopped the dreaming, I don't do too much scheming these days" suggests a shift in the singer's mindset. They have let go of unrealistic dreams and aspirations and have embraced a more grounded approach to life. The following line, "I sit inside a chauffeur car, with windows down and count the stars," paints a picture of the singer enjoying the luxuries of success but still finding solace in simple pleasures, highlighting their newfound contentment and appreciation for the present.

Overall, "These Days" by Drake captures a reflective mood where the lyrics explore themes of introspection, regret, vulnerability, and acceptance. It serves as a glimpse into the singer's current state of mind, emotions, and personal growth.

I like this version. It doesn't capture the same sadness and feeling as Nico's version does, but it creates a different kind. It has a different tone to it and that's okay. His voice is very nice.

I actually appreciate him covering this, he's paying respect as it's obviously not a cash grab ( not enough know the source material)
