Provided they get what they deserve
Rest assured that freedom wins in the end
I've been to the ends of the earth
And my knowledge is surface level but it errs
On the people pushing back on dystopia
Holding back is not an option not at all opposed Launching
An open cornucopia of toxins on the Odious that "Toby" us
We colder than the Soviets when fighting for autonomy
The movement is Moses and we're writing our Deuteronomy
The pharaohs is them rows of Congress
We been known the process
Take positions with a mission just to then mold your pockets
They call our people pompous for princes in their inboxes
Making offers
The only way we see to make a profit
Oversaturated prophets in the TV screen are opps
They take our money pray for people then supporting cops
"Anti Robbery Squad"?
But they come in the squad cars when poverty's not apparent from your appearance
Obviously looking for money
They owe our parents apologies
The people aren't property
We take up arms
And end the whole damn government, it ain't just SARS
In "Movement," Dre addresses various themes, including dystopia, freedom, and oppression. Dre acknowledges that while he might not have all the answers to the world's problems, he knows that there is something tyrannical about Hell. However, he asserts that freedom prevails eventually. Dre also highlights his experiences traveling the world and his knowledge of the struggles of people pushing back against dystopia. He then advocates for action, stressing the need to bury those who oppress and stating that holding back is not an option. The movement is critical, and the pharaohs are Congress, with Dre suggesting that they have long understood the process behind shaping society. Dre highlights the need to take positions with a mission without molding pockets, as others do.
Dre then delves into what he perceives as the problematic duality of the prophets depicted on TV, who saturate the screens as opportunistic forces. He speaks about the Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Nigeria, who he believes attacks the poor and makes arbitrary arrests without due cause. Dre calls for arms since the authorities see people as property, and if not careful, it would lead to the complete dissolution of the government.
One fascinating fact about the song is the simple but compelling chorus that underscores it. Another is that the song tackles real-world issues, including the #EndSARS movement in Nigeria. The song's title also mirrors the movement, implying that the song seeks to lend voice to it. "Movement" is featured on the soundtrack to the 2020 film, "Judas and the Black Messiah." Dre has collaborated with multiple other artists in the past, and it's fascinating to note how he seamlessly blends his skills on this track. The use of biblical references in the song is a fascinating aspect of it, lending a depth of thought and meaning to the lyrics. The song's production is incredibly polished, thanks to the input from multiple producers, including Big Yanks, Chef Byer, and DC.
In terms of cords, the song runs on a simple progression of E minor, A minor, B minor, G major. The chorus features a slightly altered pattern of E minor, A minor and G major.
