What came first, the music or the misery?
Does music cause sadness or do we listen to music because we are already sad?

People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over.
Society is concerned about media violence affecting youth, but not about how music can bring about negative emotions.

Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss.
People overlook the impact that lyrical content has on children and adolescents, especially when it consistently promotes sadness, loneliness, and heartache.

Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable?
Am I drawn to music with melancholy themes because I already feel down?

Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?
Or does listening to sad music make me feel worse and heighten my negative emotions?

You're a liar.
You're dishonest and untruthful.

You never had the stomach for our business.
You lacked the courage and toughness needed for our line of work.

Just not for your practices.
