Into the Fire
Drew Seeley Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's a heat you can't ignore but it never melts her cool
And I know it for a fact – She's a pyromaniac
She lights me up to watch me burn, and still I come back
Now we're back down to the wire, know I should not play with fire
But everything she does fuels my desire
And I'm trying to get away, instead of flying into the flame
She laughs cause she knows it won't last too long when I say
This time I'll finally forget you
But I know one smile will incinerate my will to even try
Sometimes I wish I never met you
Still I jump right back into the fire, into the fire
Yeah so first time shame on her, but second time shame on me
But I know I got it bad, cause I lost track after three
It's the thing she's giving off, it's the switch I can't turn off
So smoking hot I start to choke and cough when I say
This time I'll finally forget you
But I know one smile will incinerate my will to even try
Sometimes I wish I never met you
Still I jump right back into the fire, into the fire
Tell me why, why every time I'm getting on track
You catch me again, then you throw me back?
And why does it feel so good to let you win?
Will you ever let me in?
This time I'll finally forget you
But I know one smile will incinerate my will
This time I'll finally forget you
But I know one smile will incinerate my will to even try
Sometimes I wish I never met you
Still I jump right back into the fire, into the fire,
Into the fire, into the fire
The lyrics of Drew Seeley's "Into The Fire" describe the singer's toxic relationship with a woman who is a pyromaniac. He acknowledges that he is playing with fire by being with her, but the heat is too strong to ignore. Despite his attempts to break away from her, he keeps coming back for more. He knows that he should forget her, but every time he tries, she draws him back in with a single smile.
Throughout the song, Seeley uses fire as a metaphor for the passion that the singer feels for this woman. He knows that he is risking getting burned, but he cannot resist the pull. The chorus expresses the singer's conflicting desires and his struggle to break free from the cycle of attraction, rejection, and return.
The verses reveal some self-awareness, as the singer realizes that he is to blame for his own predicament. He acknowledges that he got caught up in her attraction and that he continues to seek her out despite knowing that it will lead to his downfall. The repetition of "This time I'll finally forget you" suggests that the singer is trying to convince himself that he can walk away, but the repetition of "into the fire" implies that he is powerless to resist.
