Adrianne Verhoeven has spent her music career lending her vocal and keyboard chops to bands like The Anniversary, Art In Manila, Fourth Of July, and Extra Classic but Dri, as she is known to her friends, has spent her twenties seeing the world, falling in and out of love, getting lost in the hazy days and buzzed nights of Lawrence, Kansas, and dreaming all the while of stepping out and rocking the mic on her own. Her debut record "Smoke Rings" is just that - a collection of kisses (and kiss-offs) blown to past and present loves; a swirl of stoned immediacy, of feelings and melodies coming to life in loose perfection.

To pay off all your debts
You rent your square to live in
And that's the best it gets
Cubical man does what he can
To keep himself alive
Pays his share for his little square
Locked in a race, the money chase
The systems fooling you
The more you make the more they take
And there's nothing you can do
Cubicle man does what he can
To keep himself alive
Pays his share for his little square
In order to survive
Run your ass to get your check
Stand in a crowded line
Pay your bills and buy the pills
That help you to unwind
Cubicle man does what he can
To keep himself alive
Pays his share for his little square
In order to survive
You buy a chair for your little square
So you can sit and hide
But you're all alone you fucked up clone
'Cause no one's on your side
The game of fools has its rules
So don't you fall behind
They'll take your square 'cause they don't care
They've got they're home-free ride
Blockhead!
The lyrics to Dri's "Blockhead" are a commentary on the struggles of the average working-class person. The song depicts a life of monotony and routine, spent working long hours to pay off debts and rent a small living space. It highlights the desperation of "cubical man," who can barely keep himself alive, yet is locked in a race for money where "the systems fooling you" and "the more you make the more they take." The constant pressure to work a dead-end job to survive is exacerbated by the lack of support from others, represented by the line "you're all alone you fucked up clone 'cause no one's on your side."
The theme of the song is reinforced by the repetition of the chorus, "Blockhead!" which echoes the frustration and anger felt by the subject. It serves as a reminder that this way of living is not natural and that it is crucial to break free from the blockheaded thinking that is keeping us trapped.
Overall, the song is a call to action for those feeling stuck in the rat race, looking for a way out of the constant treadmill of work and survival.
