Witch Hunt
Dropdead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Modern day witch hunt
As the religious right bears its teeth
Another clinic bombed
Murder in the name of Jesus
A woman's right-is the right to choose
But the wall is crumbling
Between church and state
Campaign of terror
Bathed in Gods' hypocrisy

Another shot dead
Murder in the name of Christ

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dropdead's song "Witch Hunt" are vividly descriptive of the political and religious climate in America regarding reproductive rights. The song expresses the singer's belief that women's freedom to choose and access to healthcare is under attack. The phrase "modern day witch hunt" is used to describe the war on women's rights, as it is an allusion to the Salem witch trials, where innocent people were accused and executed based on superstition and irrational fear.

The lyrics further suggest that the religious right is responsible for the destruction of clinics and the killing of doctors who perform abortions. The singer believes that this is all done in the name of Jesus and Christ, but is actually a "campaign of terror," fueled by "God's hypocrisy." The phrase "the wall is crumbling between church and state" implies that religion is infiltrating governmental policies that are supposed to be neutral and not influenced by religious dogma.

@tranesonic The baby doesn't have an opinion. How do you know the baby wont suffer from a serious condition or a bloody miscarriage? The problem is you're looking at things too culturally. I understand that an unborn fetus has all the characteristics of a living thing but so does a tree. It's a brutal and cold way of looking at it, but ultimately the mother is more alive than the baby and should not let it get in the way of a potentially wonderful life. I don't think it's the governments choice.

Too many people get controversial on this. Just stop and listen to the fucking music.
