Creeping Death
Drowning Pool Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Slaves, Hebrews born to serve
To the Pharaoh
Heed to his every word
Live in fear

Faith, of the unknown one
The deliverer
Wait, something must be done
For hundred years

So let it be written
So let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one

So let it be written
So let it be done
To kill the first born Pharaoh son
I'm creeping death

Now, let my people go
Land of Goshen
Go, I will be with thee
Bush of fire

Blood, running red and strong
Down the Nile
Plague, darkness three days long
Hail to fire

So let it be written
So let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one

So let it be written
So let it be done
To kill the first born Pharaoh son
I'm creeping death

Die by my hand
I creep across the land
Killing first-born man

Die by my hand
I creep across the land
Killing first-born man

I, rule the midnight air
The destroyer
Born, I shall soon be there
Deadly mass

I, creep the steps and floor
Final darkness
Blood, lambs blood painted door
I shall pass

So let it be written
So let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one

So let it be written
So let it be done

To kill the first born Pharaoh son
I'm creeping death

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Drowning Pool's song 'Creeping Death' tell a story of slaves living in fear under the reign of the Pharaoh in ancient Egypt. The slaves, referred to as Hebrews, have faith in an unknown deliverer who they believe will help them escape their bondage. The singer of the song claims to be the messenger of the chosen one, and his mission is to kill the first-born son of the Pharaoh, which he does without hesitation. The lyrics are full of references to the ten plagues that befell Egypt, including the changing of the Nile's water to blood, darkness that lasted three days, hail, and fire.

The song's title, 'Creeping Death,' is a reference to the final and most infamous of the plagues to befall Egypt, the killing of the first-born sons. The lyrics are told from the perspective of the angel of death who visited each of the Pharaoh's households to execute the judgment. While the song's lyrics may seem violent and disturbing, they also put forth the idea of rebellion and standing up against oppression.

Carlos Tejada

Concuerdo con eso.
