I understand where you're coming from, the scattered individuality of the entire track does give it that sort of infringed feel, but for it follow a pattern of connected sounds and nicely executed relations between the parts would still be itself an infringement because it would still follow the format/formula of a nicely executed track. This here is still an art, because you can hear how creative Dubba got with the language of the sound. It sounds like he was trying something new to him.

Ah, I see. That type of progression. The kind you hear in house and trance often. I'm not sure if I've ever heard a Dubstep song with that sort of element growth, most of what I hear is a beginning melody and it jumps right to the conclusion with not much sound progression in between. I like both progressive and conclusive styles though, I used to listen to a a lot of Hardstyle and Jumptek music that was progressive the 93 Million Miles. But 'ey, enjoyed the exchange.

Hm.. Maybe we're hearing this song from totally different perspectives? Because what I hear from the drop is pretty much what Dubba started with just translated into bass and with a few variations from the starting point. But I won't argue with your proposal because it's only obvious we have different tastes and I respect that. Happy listening, dude.

I'm not going to hate entirelly, I can see how someone would like this, its a well produced track. And since you are accustomed to the genre this form of transition makes perfect sense to you. I'm just more accustomed to more interesting and complex progressions than this. Afrika Hitech - 93 Million Miles is a track I really liked a while back, very well though out progression and sound design.

But to me it sounds like you could have gone with a number of "themes" instead of western and changed nothing in the bass heavy parts and it would sound exactly the same. There are no patterns that show up again, nothing to really team your mind, just "oh fuck, western so cool" and "OH FUCK BASS SO COOL". There is no pattern you can follow to connect your sounds so as to make your track into art, so your point on that is invalid. The lack of such a thing is the beauty of great works.

I find the track well made. I know what idealists wants to say. There are so many tracks with a chilled melody up to 0:55 and than a drop appears out of nothing and not even fitting to the track at all. I hate that. This track is different, so chilled. Everytime i listen to this song i have this pic in mind: bit . ly/ZqsghH Here, a tough guy chilling on one bench along, with a cig, with some irish whiskey.. lets the time pass away. The song in the background.. Amazing.

I dont feel like the melody matches at all, thats my problem with it, but we can toss that up to taste. Format for me is following a predetermined progression. Which is fine too. Now if you just fill up the progression with awesome individual parts, it will sound awesome, like this, but it doesnt mean its as coherent as it could be. A lot of electronic music also has 'no format' that is basically ABA'B'A''B''A'''B''' and or A A' A'' A''' in ways that just keep building up the same ideas slowly

I guess you've never taken music production. I'm not sure if you've heard of the basic ABA form in pretty much all of music, but there are actually formats in which a music producer can use to make the parts of their music cooperate. That's why songs will often have opening lyrics, then a chorus, then fill-in lyrics, then a Chorus again, then an ending. Is that not a format? And making music, especially digital music, itself takes talent and a translation of an abstract idea to a physical one.

That's something I understand, but what I mean by format is anything that doesn't jump from one sonus atmosphere to another- like from a christmas jingle to a country jam to a gospel. That is no particular format. What makes a good song is the consistent idea behind it and not the sound itself. In Dubba's case with this song, it's the language of the sound that I admire. I feel like he took a lot of time coming up with these notes and creating a course dubstep bass to match the melody.

Im a learning producer myself and I handle supposed graduate level music theory (not that deep yet, but I handle it, most stuff online is too basic if you really want to make anything worthwhile). Not everything is about format, most avant-garde music doesnt have a format. I know ABA, thats basic and fun, but the more advanced producers usually just go ABCD, or ABA'B'A''(basic house template). But just doing a formula doesnt make it a good track, it just makes it familiar enough to people.
