1) The German rave band Dune. The band was founded in 1995 by Oliver Froning and Jens Oettrich, who are both big fans of the novels by Frank Herbert - hence the name Dune. Their first single "Hardcore Vibes" featured the voice of Oliver's then 11-year-old cousin Janine. Their second single "Are you ready to fly?" sounded quite different and already featured the typical Dune-style with high-pitched vocals and a catchy melody.

At the end of 1996 the band released the album "Forever" with a lot of tracks in a classical style - all tracks where performed together with the London Session Orchestra (see Dune & the London Session Orchestra). Lead singer Verena von Strenge left Dune after the release of "Forever" to start a solo career. Dune came back in April 1998 with a new lead singer (Vanessa Hörster). The single "Keep the Secret" was only a medium success and its successor "Electric Heaven" flopped completely.

In late 1999 Verena von Strenge came back as lead singer after her solo career was not as successful as she wanted it to be. The single "Dark Side of the Moon" was released and the album "Reunion" was produced and ready for release in May 2000. However the album was never released due to a court order that stopped the single "Heaven".

The latest single released was "Rainbow To The Stars 2003", a rework of their 1996 classic. It was released on 23 June 2003.

2) A Finnish demoscene tracker musician who adopted the more unique name Brothomstates in the latter half of the 1990s and was later signed to Warp Records.

3) Dune was also an Alias used by Drum & Bass Dj/Artist Ray Keith in the early 1990s.

4) An Indiana-based musician who recorded an album called "Road of Life" in 2000.

5) An Australian power/progressive metal band that is now disbanded. The band only recorded a demo called The Eleventh Hour.

8)Duo made of Laurent Garnier and Pascal F.E.O.S. (Pascal Dardoufas). Released one EP: The Alliance EP: Trance, Ambient style electronic.

9) Four friends from Athens, Ohio, finally came together to form DUNE in 2011. Influenced by their favorite acts (Sabbath, Kyuss, QOTSA, Sword, Truckfighters), DUNE's brand of stoner metal has various undertones--everything from soul to thrash. You can find them on Bandcamp.

Mann... ich bin nichtmal sonderlich großer Fan von elektronischer Musik. (Bin ab 1998 eher auf die Metal-Schiene gerutscht, wo ich mich bis heute noch immer wohl fühle.) ABER: Wenn ich mir heutzutage die ganzen Hits von Dune und andere 90er Jahre Techno/Rave-Sachen anhöre, werde ich unfassbar wehmütig und klick mich wie ein Süchtiger von einem Video zum nächsten. Das war damals einfach so eine tolle, offenherzige, sorglose Zeit...

Und das nicht nur, weil wir noch so jung waren, sondern tatsächlich, weil die Welt damals bei Weitem nicht so am Arsch war wie heutzutage. Damals liefen die Leute in quietschbunten Pullis und abgedrehteren Outfits rum, die meisten Leute hatten ihren individuellen Stil (oder haben ihn zumindest versucht zu finden) und wir stellten uns die Zukunft total toll vor. (Wenn ich mich nur beispielsweise an die Expo 2000 erinnere... da blickte noch jeder extrem positiv in die Zukunft!)

Und jetzt? Ist der ganze "90s Spirit" sowas von verschwunden. Nicht nur dass ALLE gleich aussehen wollen und Jugendliche, die Individualität nach außen tragen, eher belächelt oder zu Außenseitern werden – die jüngere Generation hört praktisch nur noch deutsche Ghetto-Rap-Hasstiraden, peinlichste Schlager-Grütze oder (noch schlimmer) interessiert sich nichtmal mehr für Musik, sondern hört, was eben so läuft. Ich bin einfach SO VERDAMMT FROH, die 90er in meiner Jugend erlebt zu haben.

So, und jetzt weiter zu "Can't Stop Raving", "Hand in Hand" und "Are You Ready to Fly". Noch ein bißchen das Gefühl von damals aufleben lassen.

Dem kann ich mich nur anschließen. Ich war auch eher ein Metalfan, trotzdem war es die Musik unserer Jugend. Das erste mal zur Disco, die erste Liebe und der erste Liebeskummer, alles schien möglich zu sein ,in dieser Zeit. Alle warteten sehnsüchtig auf die Jahrtausendwende und hofften auf das was da kommen möge, (es konnte ja nur noch besser werden),dann kam der 11.September 2001 und es war wie ein Bruch. Danach war die Welt eine andere und plötzlich war man erwachsen. Ich blicke auch sehr wehmütig auf die 1990er Jahre zurück 😔

Man hat sich einfach getroffen nach der Schule.. an den üblichen Orten wie auch schon erwähnt. Am Sportplatz, Jugendtreff, Spielplatz oder aber auch an dem selbstgebauten Club Häuschen etc.. Das war wirklich noch eine ruhige chillige Zeit, in der wir bedenkloser draußen sein konnten... bis es dunkel wurde und noch länger ..Ich wünsche mir manchmal, daß meine Kinder auch so ihre Kindheit verbringen könnten.. Ich bin echt froh damals Teenie gewesen zu sein. Damals konnte man das Radio anmachen und das was in Deutschland produziert wurde, selbst der Trash, war einfach geil. Das war so'ne kreative und bunte Zeit und damals haben die sich noch was getraut und waren nicht ganz so fake und "Stock-im-Arsch" mäßig drauf wie heute. Damals waren sogar deutsche Titel im Radio, die in der Sprache einfach funktioniert haben. Wenn ich heute das Radio anmache, oder die Glotze, und höre was hier heute so produziert wird und in den Charts ist, möchte ich mich einfach nur endlos fremdschämen.

+scalpelli Moin, ich höre fast ausschliesslich Musik und kann Dir nur zustimmen. Heute hört sich alles so gut wie gleich an... weil ein Lied dem vorigen nachproduziert wird. Ein erfolgreicher Beat, gut geklaut oder nachgemacht = Erfolgsrezept und Kohle. Man gucke sich nurTurbo B an aka Snap... in Deutschland produziert aber Weltweit efolgreich. Wieviele DEUTSCH produzierte Bands schaffen das?? Also ein Hoch auf die Zeiten wo wir Teenies waren und wo alles seinen Ursprung hatte ;)

hansi789654123 In den 80ern waren die Songs in den Charts aber noch echte, handgemachte Musik mit Herzblut und Seele. Damals wurde eine komplett neue Welle an Genres geschaffen, dank neuer Instrumente wie Synthesizer, Drum-machines, Samplers, etc. Damals waren selbst die Songs in den Charts, die genervt haben, noch Qualität. Heute ist fast alles nur recycled und geklaut. Es kommt kaum noch was neues. Und die klingen alle gleich, es gibt keine Individualität mehr, die es damals sehr wohl noch gab.
Und von den Texten will ich erst garnicht sprechen. Wenn ich so Leute wie "Balbina" höre, kriege ich das Brechen.
Ich weiß wovon ich rede, da ich selbst mit dem Musikmachen viel zu tun habe und alles auch noch ein bißchen aus der Produktions-Perspektive sehe.
