1) The German rave band Dune. The band was founded in 1995 by Oliver Froning and Jens Oettrich, who are both big fans of the novels by Frank Herbert - hence the name Dune. Their first single "Hardcore Vibes" featured the voice of Oliver's then 11-year-old cousin Janine. Their second single "Are you ready to fly?" sounded quite different and already featured the typical Dune-style with high-pitched vocals and a catchy melody.
At the end of 1996 the band released the album "Forever" with a lot of tracks in a classical style - all tracks where performed together with the London Session Orchestra (see Dune & the London Session Orchestra). Lead singer Verena von Strenge left Dune after the release of "Forever" to start a solo career. Dune came back in April 1998 with a new lead singer (Vanessa Hörster). The single "Keep the Secret" was only a medium success and its successor "Electric Heaven" flopped completely.
In late 1999 Verena von Strenge came back as lead singer after her solo career was not as successful as she wanted it to be. The single "Dark Side of the Moon" was released and the album "Reunion" was produced and ready for release in May 2000. However the album was never released due to a court order that stopped the single "Heaven".
The latest single released was "Rainbow To The Stars 2003", a rework of their 1996 classic. It was released on 23 June 2003.

Why Discipline Control
Dune Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But unfortunately it is no sin
The military treat us like dirt
Leaving us with no one to alert
I knew this guy who went to a school
Where discipline was the most important rule
His life changed to an evil thing
And now they are flying at half mast for him
Everybody knows you're not in danger
Everybody knows you're not a stranger
I vomit when I see discipline
But unfortunately it is no sin
The military treat us like dirt
Leaving us with no one to alert
I knew this guy who went to a school
Where discipline was the most important rule
His life changed to an evil thing
And now they are flying at half mast for him
Everybody knows you're not in danger
Everybody knows you're not a stranger
Everybody knows you're not in danger
Everybody knows you're not a stranger
In "Why Discipline Control" by DĂșnĂ©, the lyrics express a strong aversion to discipline and control, particularly in reference to the military and institutionalized systems. The song suggests that although discipline is not inherently sinful, it can be problematic when taken to extremes. The singer shares their disdain for discipline by stating that they actually vomit at the sight of it. They acknowledge that discipline can be pervasive in society, specifically in the military, where individuals are treated poorly and often have no outlet for their concerns or complaints.
The song introduces a personal anecdote about someone the singer knows who attended a school where discipline was the primary rule. However, this excessive discipline had a negative impact on the person's life, turning it into something sinister. The use of the phrase "flying at half mast" suggests that this person's life has ended tragically. It implies that the strictness and rigidity of discipline can result in harm or even death.
The repetition of the lines "Everybody knows you're not in danger, Everybody knows you're not a stranger" at the end of each verse serves as a chorus, emphasizing a collective awareness that discipline does not necessarily lead to danger or unfamiliarity. This repetition reinforces the idea that the aversion to discipline in the song is not an isolated sentiment but shared among many.
