Lynch's musical career began to take off after he auditioned for the Bluebird Cafe's open-mic night. He impressed host Barbara Cloyd so much that she chased him into the parking lot and offered to help him get some footing in the community. Weeks later, Lynch got a call from Pete Hartung – manager for singer-songwriter Justin Moore – who had found Dustin’s MySpace page and wanted to get involved. Within weeks, Lynch had a publishing deal, and he wrote a staggering 200+ songs in less than two years. He developed his own style of combining his fascination with words and melodies with concert skills he developed in high-school bands and playing the southeastern club circuit.
Dustin Lynch's particular brand of country music has earned him a strong following and set him on the path to becoming one of country's artists to watch. His debut single, "Cowboys and Angels", peaked at number 17 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. He has released three additional albums - Where It's At (2014), Current Mood (2017), and Tullahoma (2019), with the latter two reaching the top 10 of the US Billboard Country Albums chart.

Bonfires burn down the red coast glowing in your eyes
I've been waiting all night for the crowd to thin out to talk to you
We got the buzz and the want you, baby, all we need is a little more time
I know you've been drinking what I've been drinking
I hope you've been thinking what I've been thinking
A candle on the tailgate
Baby I can't wait to get this thing started
A sky full of moon and a million crazy little things to do
Let's throw a little after party
Baby, just me and you
I kept a six-pack stashed here back for us just in case
Our friends are all hooked up, laid back, passed out, or long gone
Girl watching you dance in the moonlight's making my mind race
I think the breeze through the trees and the crickets are playing our song
That smile says you're knowing what I've been knowing
Let's take this thing where it oughta be going
Let's throw a little after party
A candle on the tailgate
Baby, I can't wait to get this thing started
A sky full of moon and a million crazy little things to do
Let's throw a little after party
Baby, just me and you
Well the night's still young and baby so are we
There's just one place where you need to be
Let's throw a little after party
A candle on the tailgate
Baby, I can't wait to get this thing started
A sky full of moon and a million crazy little things to do
Let's throw a little after party
Baby, just me and you
Let's throw a little after party
Oh baby, just me and you
The song "After Party" by Dustin Lynch depicts the scene of a late-night party with a dwindling crowd. The singers have blown out, and the only solace lies in the bonfires burning down the red coast that seem to be glowing in his love interest's eyes. The singer has been waiting for the entire night for the venue to clear out so that he can talk to her. He realizes she has been drinking what he has been drinking and hopes she has been thinking what he has been thinking. He then suggests a candle-lit after-party, with a sky full of moon and a million crazy little things to do. The singer has kept a six-pack stashed for the two of them, just in case. His friends are all gone, and the only thing left to do is ask the girl to dance in the moonlight. He feels that the breeze through the trees and the crickets are playing their song. The singer is aware that the girl has been knowing what he has been knowing, and it's time to take this thing where it oughta be going. The chorus repeats the idea of a little after-party with only him and her.
Lynch's "After Party" is a song about an amorous getaway with a love interest, away from the crowd or the chaos of everyday life. The singer is waiting for the moment, reading the signs that the love interest feels the same way while being aware of her surroundings. The song offers a romantic escape that many of its listeners may crave.
