Dusty, who was inspired by TI and Eminem, began his career by penning comical rhymes in the 3rd grade. Over time the young MC perfected his intrinsic skills including his lyrical content, which matured because he put in overtime in his home studio. While Dusty always felt a part of the hip hop culture that changed when he transferred from a large diverse high school in the city to a more segregated one in the country. “I was the only white kid wearing oversized tees and jerseys weighing 150 pounds and wanting to rap,” recalls Dusty. “So, I was like an outsider. Everyone else was into John Deere and stuff like that. There were even teachers that joked about me wanting to be a rapper.” Dusty didn’t let his location, or the cynicism of his educators, deter him from his rap dreams. At 15, his older brother pitched him to battle rap against guys twice his age. Learning firsthand that neither age nor race define what one is capable of, Dusty found himself spitting in front of an audience of over 100. This was the biggest platform of his life, and he made a fan out of every person in attendance.
Because he grew up around street culture, his inextricable association led him to create that kind of music. “I would just try to make the music they were making, just gangster stuff. I kind of did that for about a year and then they all started going to jail and I kind of fell off from doing it.” Instead of quitting, Dusty readied for his comeback. After gaining custody of his young daughter, he decided to make music that reflected his life, which included heartbreak, as well as happiness. After taking several networking trips to Atlanta, the ambitious hustler recorded a single that Grey Goose sponsored. The hit not only jump-started his career, but it also changed his life. The Midwestern rhymer’s profile was instantly raised making him an overnight celebrity. “I’ve never had people call me Dusty Leigh in my life. Now I’ve got people running up to me yelling my name and buying me drinks. And at the time, I didn’t even drink.” Regularly dubbed “the party animal,” Dusty has worked overtime to earn the reputation and the rewards. “Most of my music is geared towards love and emotion, or just having a good time and living life. It’s not trappy at all. It’s real life and about how I live.”
The Debut
Dusty Leigh announced himself to the world on his debut album, No Day Job. A radical Hip-Pop release, it contained a hopeful message and statement of purpose. “When you have a dream, people say things like ‘don’t quit your day job,’ basically telling you that you’re not good enough and there’s no hope for you. I bucked that theory and started a movement.” Fans caught on. Although Dusty doesn’t have any tattoos and doesn’t promote people to irresponsibly walk away from their jobs, he’s been greeted by thousands of followers who have inked “quitting my day job” on their faces and bodies.
The Stage Presence
While the leader of the “Dust Gang” has been typecast as a party animal, he denotes any notion of one-dimensionality when he performs with a live band. From electrifying bursts of drums, rock guitars, keys and saxophones, Dusty has created a brilliant concept of genuine, honest art. Dusty is his own distinct character. His next project will have no rap features and instead will feature emerging singers and in-house producers. “I feel like, if people have a lot of features, it kind of takes away from your talent. Everybody who’s on this album it’s his or her first time recording professionally. I want to bring fresh voices and talent to the forefront.” Dusty, who has toured with Colt Ford, The Lacs, Bubba Sparxxx, Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), Demun Jones, Jellyroll, Adam Calhoun, Young Jeezy, Struggle Jennings, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Haystak, Nappy Roots, Savannah Dexter, Rittz, Lil Wayne, and more., is fully aware of his influence. He has built his brand on transparency and an experience of positivity. “I’m the guy that gets there before sound check. I make sure I take pictures with people, and I give them CDs, t-shirts, any kind of merchandise to expand the fan experience for them. I’m there with my supporters talking, laughing, and keeping it all real. That’s why I think I’ve gained so many followers in a short time without any major platform.” Dusty Leigh’s unconventional approach to the unique blend of Rhythm and County genres allows him to draw on his roots, with Hip-Hop and Pop, to create a performance that keeps the audience engaged from start to finish.
The Future
Never afraid to take risks, Dusty will continue to broaden and define the periphery of traditional county music by telling a story with his lyrics that evokes raw emotion based on life experiences. His music will continue to resonate consciously and subconsciously with a diverse audience. Honesty, emotion, and life experiences will remain his guiding force as he delves deeper into creating Rhythm and County music. From underground to mainstream, from kissing babies to shaking hands, Dusty Leigh is on track to becoming a music culture phenomenon. His energy is undeniable.

Nah as long as it runs and drives
Ain’t about boots you wear or the jeans you Rock in
As long as your out all night
It ain’t about the city lights diamonds shining dancing in the sky
Yeah this is a song bout a honky tonk and we’re all staying out all night
All night til the sun comes up
Got Beers on the tailgate stab a can right on the butt
Let’s see how fast you chug
Haha And I’m beat ya
In the dust I’m a leave ya
Ole Randy Travis on the speakers
Turn the music up move your boots or sneakers
It ain’t a party without Good country people
It ain’t about the color of your Chevy
Nah as long as it runs and drives
Ain’t about boots you wear or the jeans you Rock in
As long as your out all night
It ain’t about the city lights diamonds shining dancing in the sky
Yeah this is a song bout a honky tonk and we’re all staying out all night
Have u ever seen a straw hat shine
Wait until the light shines on mine
I got my slip on Georgia boots bulldog sliding
No camo cause I ain’t hiding
From a good time
I’ll be setting the tone
Surrounded by my people getting it on
I spent my money buying out the bar
Get your drink on
And go and find something else that you can spend yours on
It ain’t about the color of your Chevy
Nah as long as it runs and drives
Ain’t about boots you wear or the jeans you Rock in
As long as your out all night
It ain’t about the city lights diamonds shining dancing in the sky
Yeah this is a song bout a honky tonk and we’re all staying out all night
And we’re gonna keep on going
Til four five clock in the morning
We’ll be carrying on
til the break or dawn
It ain’t about the color of your Chevy
Nah as long as it runs and drives
Ain’t about boots you wear or the jeans you Rock in
As long as your out all night
It ain’t about the city lights diamonds shining dancing in the sky
Yeah this is a song bout a honky tonk and we’re all staying out all night
The lyrics to Dusty Leigh's song "Honky Tonk" celebrate the simple pleasures of a night spent in a honky tonk, rejecting any superficial judgments based on material possessions or appearances. The song emphasizes that it doesn't matter what kind of car you drive (referring to the color of a Chevy), as long as it runs and drives. It's not about the shoes or jeans you wear, but about being out all night and embracing the honky tonk experience.
The song paints a picture of a lively atmosphere, with references to being on the back of a run-down truck, drinking beers on the tailgate, and engaging in friendly competition in chugging drinks. Dusty Leigh playfully boasts about being the winner and leaves others in the dust, with the music of Randy Travis blaring from the singers. The song emphasizes that a true honky tonk experience is incomplete without genuine country people, creating a sense of camaraderie and fun.
The lyrics also highlight the singer's individuality and enjoyment of the night by mentioning a shining straw hat and slip-on Georgia boots. The mention of not wearing camouflage because he's not hiding indicates a desire to fully embrace the good time and set the tone for the night. Dusty Leigh takes pride in spending his money to buy drinks for everyone and encourages others to do the same, suggesting that it's not about the money, but about finding enjoyment in the company of others.
Overall, "Honky Tonk" is a celebration of the honky tonk culture, emphasizing the importance of genuine experiences and connection with country people, rather than material possessions or superficial appearances.
