Taking Me Home
Duvall Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Once in a dream I saw
Your face shining before me.
What could I do but fall down?
I'm waking up now and I'm laying it all down.

There may be a long way left to go,
I don't know, I don't know.
But one thing I do know
You're taking me home, you're taking me home.

You're taking me home.

Once in my heart I heard
Your voice calling my name.
What could I do but turn around?
I'm listening now and you know that I'll follow that sound.

There may be a long way left to go,
I don't know, I don't know.
But one thing I do know
You're taking me home, you're taking me home.

You're taking me home.

There may be a long way left to go,
I don't know, I don't know.
But one thing I do know
You're taking me home, you're taking me home.

You're taking me home. You're taking me... yeah.

You're taking me home. You're taking me home.
You're taking me home. Home.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Duvall's song "Taking Me Home" seem to be about feeling lost in life and needing guidance. The singer describes a dream where he sees someone's face shining before him, causing him to fall down, indicating a sense of awe and reverence. In the next verse, he hears a voice calling his name and feels compelled to turn around and follow it. The tone of the song shifts from being lost and confused to feeling hopeful and guided.

The repeated phrase "You're taking me home" suggests that the person he's dreaming about, or perhaps a spiritual force, is leading him to a place of comfort and safety. The singer acknowledges that there may still be a long way to go in his journey, but he trusts that he's on the right path and that he'll be taken care of. The final lines of the song repeat "You're taking me home" three times, emphasizing the sense of certainty and relief that the singer feels.

My first time seeing Josh Caterer play was in Wilkes Barre PA with Duvall. I was a huge Popes fan. The local favorite band played right before them and everybody left! There was only 7-8 people standing there and Josh just gave 100%. Such a great set. Josh is a great song writer and performer and shreds the guitar. This whole album is awesome.
