E.G. Daily signed with A&M Records in 1985, and released her debut album Wild Child. A year later in 1986 the dance/pop single Say It, Say It was released. The song only made it to #70 on Billboard Hot 100, but claimed the #1 spot on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. Her songs Shake It Up and I'm Hot Tonight were included in the soundtrack to the film Scarface. Those same songs were later included in the lineup of fictional radio station Flashback 95.6 in the Grand Theft Auto III video game. She also appeared in Better Off Dead where she sang the title song.

I don't know why, don't know why it's always the same
Maybe I'm holding on when I could let go, but still I try
'Cause it's not really over and some things are worth saving
This time, this time
I think there's a way
This time, don't know why
This time, this time
I think there's a way
This time I won't run away
Tell me why, tell me why I'm always saying
It hurts inside, don't know why and who is to blame
Sometimes your dreams shatter and fall down to the ground
But it's not really over, not even when it's raining
This time, this time
I think there's a way
This time, don't know why
I think things will change
This time, this time
I think there's a way
This time I'm gonna try to stay
Sometimes I wanna wake up
Before my dreams slip away
'Cause it's not really over
And there's got to be a way in
Even when it's raining
This time, this time
I think there's a way
This time, don't know why
I think things will change
This time, this time
I think there's a way
This time I won't run away
The lyrics of E.G. Daily's song "This Time" convey a sense of hopefulness and determination to hold on and change things for the better. The singer seems to be stuck in a pattern of waiting, unsure of why things always seem to end the same way. Yet, despite this, they are holding on and trying to salvage what they can, believing that some things are worth saving. The repetition of the phrase "this time" serves as an affirmation that things can be different, that there is a way to break free from the cycle and succeed.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of dreams falling apart and the pain that comes with that, but even in those moments, the singer remains hopeful. They believe that it's not really over, that there is always a way in, even when it's raining. The repetition of the phrase "I think there's a way" emphasizes that the singer is not certain, but still willing to try and find a solution. The song ends with a promise that this time they won't run away, indicating a newfound strength and determination to face whatever comes their way.
