By the time of their debut album, 1980's Crocodiles - a moderate UK hit - the drum machine had been replaced by Pete de Freitas. Their next, the critically-acclaimed Heaven Up Here, reached the Top Ten in 1981, as did 1983's Porcupine and '84's Ocean Rain. Singles like "The Killing Moon" (later used in the soundtrack to Donnie Darko, a film whose imagery owed much to the artwork of the band's early records.), "Silver," "Bring on the Dancing Horses," and "The Cutter" helped keep the group in the public eye as they took a brief hiatus in the late 1980s. Their 1987 self-titled LP was a small American hit, their only LP to have significant sales there.
McCulloch quit the band in 1988. De Freitas was killed in a motorcycle accident one year later. The others decided to continue, recruiting Noel Burke to replace McCulloch on vocals in Reverberation (1990), which did not generate much excitement among fans or critics. Burke, Sargeant and Pattinson split after that, but the surviving three fourths of the original band reformed in 1997 and released Evergreen (1997), What are You Going to Do with Your Life? (1999), Flowers (2001) , Siberia (2005), and the latest addition, The Fountain (2009). The group's old audience liked the return to their classic sound, and they also managed to gain a number of new, younger listeners.
Echo and the Bunnymen were managed early on by Bill Drummond, who went on to be a founder member of The KLF.
All You Need Is Love

Love, love, love
Love, love, love
There's nothing you can do that can't be done
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy
Nothing you can make that can't be made
No one you can save that can't be saved
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time
It's easy
All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need
All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need
Nothing you can know that isn't known
Nothing you can see that isn't shown
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be
It's easy
All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need
All you need is love (All together, now!)
All you need is love (Everybody!)
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need (love is all you need)
Yee-hai!
Oh yeah!
She loves you, yeah yeah yeah
She loves you, yeah yeah yeah
The lyrics to Echo & the Bunnymen's cover of The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" are a simple yet powerful message about the importance of love in life. The first lines of the song repeat the word "love" three times, establishing the central theme of the song. The following verses provide advice on how to live a fulfilling life. The first verse suggests that there is nothing that cannot be accomplished if one puts their mind to it. The second verse encourages listeners to be themselves and find their own way in the world. The final verse suggests that happiness and contentment can be found by accepting oneself and one's place in the world.
The chorus repeats the phrase "All you need is love" four times, emphasizing the importance of love as a guiding principle in life. The phrase is repeated again at the end of the song, along with a reference to The Beatles' classic song "She Loves You", which serves as a reminder of the power of love to bring people together. Echo & the Bunnymen's cover of "All You Need Is Love" retains the original song's message of love and acceptance, while adding their own unique sound to the arrangement.

Amazing continuation of the song, so many Beatles' songs and motives mixed into one. Thanks for posting this!

Not to mention a couple of Dylan tracks, Elvis, James Brown, and my personal favourite Eddie Miller and Robert Yount's 'Release Me' genius. I was 12 years old when they recorded this but only heard it for the first time today, excellent stuff, still smiling when I listen to that fade out.
