By the time of their debut album, 1980's Crocodiles - a moderate UK hit - the drum machine had been replaced by Pete de Freitas. Their next, the critically-acclaimed Heaven Up Here, reached the Top Ten in 1981, as did 1983's Porcupine and '84's Ocean Rain. Singles like "The Killing Moon" (later used in the soundtrack to Donnie Darko, a film whose imagery owed much to the artwork of the band's early records.), "Silver," "Bring on the Dancing Horses," and "The Cutter" helped keep the group in the public eye as they took a brief hiatus in the late 1980s. Their 1987 self-titled LP was a small American hit, their only LP to have significant sales there.
McCulloch quit the band in 1988. De Freitas was killed in a motorcycle accident one year later. The others decided to continue, recruiting Noel Burke to replace McCulloch on vocals in Reverberation (1990), which did not generate much excitement among fans or critics. Burke, Sargeant and Pattinson split after that, but the surviving three fourths of the original band reformed in 1997 and released Evergreen (1997), What are You Going to Do with Your Life? (1999), Flowers (2001) , Siberia (2005), and the latest addition, The Fountain (2009). The group's old audience liked the return to their classic sound, and they also managed to gain a number of new, younger listeners.
Echo and the Bunnymen were managed early on by Bill Drummond, who went on to be a founder member of The KLF.

Moments lost in time
Every last thing they can send us
Will be yours and mine and mine and mine
Don't look down
Don't look down
Don't look down
See this through or we could watch it die
Me and you, saying our last goodbye
Goodbye babe, goodbye baby goodbye
Hear us calling
Ever crying
Wonder when it stops
Don't look down
Don't look down
Don't look down
See this through or we could watch it die
Me and you, saying our last goodbye
Goodbye babe, goodbye baby goodbye
Goodbye babe, goodbye baby goodbye
See this through, see this through
Me and you, me and you
Me and you, see this through
Me and you, me and you
The lyrics to Everlasting Neverendless by Echo & the Bunnymen speak of the fragility and transience of life, urging the listener to appreciate every moment of it. The opening lines, "Everlasting neverendless, moments lost in time," suggest that while life can seem infinite, each moment quickly passes us by, never to be regained. The repetition of the phrase "mine and mine and mine" emphasizes the preciousness of these fleeting moments, urging the listener to cling to them before they slip away.
The chorus contains a simple, yet powerful message: "Don't look down." This phrase can be interpreted in several ways, but in the context of the song, it could be seen as a warning not to focus too much on the past or future, but to stay grounded in the present moment. It's a reminder that life is happening right here, right now, and we must enjoy it to the fullest.
The second half of the song takes on a more mournful tone, with the lines "See this through or we could watch it die, Me and you, saying our last goodbye." These words suggest an impending end, either of a relationship or perhaps even life itself. The repetition of the phrases "goodbye babe, goodbye baby goodbye" drives this point home, highlighting the sorrow that comes with losing something or someone we cherish.
Overall, Everlasting Neverendless is a reminder to cherish every moment of life, to stay rooted in the present, and to appreciate the people and things we hold dear.
