Born in Roxbury—a rough, predominantly black neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts. Anderson then known as Edo Rock started his career in the late 1980s at age 15, in a crew called F.T.I. (Fresh To Impress). They had a song called "Suzi Q" on "Boston Goes Def!" Vinyl LP compilation released in 1986. Three years later, with the help of New York's legendary Awesome 2 duo (Teddy Ted and Special K) formed Edo G and Da Bulldogs in late 1989. He released his first album in 1991 with his group Da Bulldogs, titled Life of a Kid in the Ghetto. The album included the song "Be a Father to Your Child," which received airplay on local Boston radio stations, and "I Got To Have It", which was sampled later by Mary J. Blige on the track "Ooh!". The group was dropped from Mercury Records in 1993.
Edo G has subsequently gone on to release four solo albums and two EPs, toured around the world, and worked with other artists including Pete Rock, DJ Premier, RZA, KRS-One, Common, Black Thought of The Roots, and Masta Ace.
On his solo album The Truth Hurts, he combined with DJ Premier and Pete Rock; "Wishful Thinking" was a sequel of his first solo performance. The connection with Rock turned into a partnership for the album My Own Worst Enemy. One of the album's songs, "Wishing" (featuring Masta Ace), was featured on The Boondocks in episode 9, Return of the King.
In 2005, Edo G started a new group called Special Teamz with fellow Boston rappers Jaysaun (of Kreators) and Slaine (of La Coka Nostra). They released a mixtape on November 11, 2005 entitled The Mixtape. Special Teamz released the album, Stereotypez, on September 25, 2007, which featured production from Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and specialist producer Marco Polo, who had previously collaborated with Jake One and Ill Bill. Appearances on the album included Buckshot and Sean Price of the Boot Camp Click, Ill Bill, Akrobtik, and Devin the Dude.
Edo G proceeded to work on a new album with Masta Ace. The first single, titled "Little Young" was released via Myspace. The album was scheduled for release in October 2009, but the release was delayed by a cease-and-desist order from A&E Television Networks, which required a complete revision of the album cover artwork and design[why?].
Edo G is also a member of the Boston hip hop group 4Peace along with Twice Thou, Wyatt Jackson, and DQuest.

You used to be my man, we used to be in love
Since we parted ways things is gettin' rough
Just because I got a kid by you
Don't give you no reasons to act like a fool
Yo, you used to be my girl, but that was in the past
It's a shame that that shit didn't last
Don't give you no reasons to change like the weather
Sometimes I reminisce on how it was before we dropped a seed
I was your everything and you was all I need
Stopped payin' attention cause I gained a little weight
Pokin' all these hookers, layin' up from state to state
My stress level's risin' to the highest, you begged me
To have your baby, now you're tryin' to play me
And so I choose to move away from this drama
No longer in love, now you just my baby's father
What's up, you needs to shush up and hush up
Everything you hear you believe
You're loud plus you Rifkin more than Steve
When I come through you make me leave
If I roll up on you like a sleeve
Don't get it twisted like braids or weaves
No welly, I'm off to the bank telly
Plus actin' foul when my seed was in yo belly
You ain't the eight one on the section
The problem is we ain't together but we still keep sexin'
You tryin' to keep the upper hand just because we got a kid
Don't give you the right to try to monitor the way I live
Where I go and who I date ain't no business of yours
No need for you to player-hate, you still get the drawers
The love used to be there, I don't know where the shit went
We was young and wasn't ready for commitment
Young ways at a young age
Two teenagers with a young seed to raise
[Chorus: ]
See you been on fire since the baby, flamin' up
Started changin' up with the rah-rah callin' my peeps and hangin' up
Speakin' in a different tone now
On that young shit, even though we grown now
You on your own, but ain't raisin her alone
We can't even hold a decent conversation on the phone
Yeah, we lay down like SMPTE
You want me to hit you so you tempt me
Turnin' red like Simply
Don't take it out on my seed cause you resent me
It's unfulfilling, so in other words we empty
You talk about things you prepared to do
I was there when your fam wasn't there for you
And yo, I'm pointin' fingers, like triggers
Your sisters is a bunch of goldiggers
With they kids around a million different niggas
Fake tears you cried and wept
Baby, walk the same path and follow in they footsteps
You try to say them hurtful things and threaten me with fear
But I cried my last cry and shed my last tear
I did my best to keep you out of court for child support
But you don't do your job, it's like I'm married to the mob
Your friends be on some spy shit, I'm on some do-or-die shit
Survive it, I got to, I can't depend on you
Watchin' her on weekends, thinkin' you the shit
Callin' it a favor when you babysit
You'se a part-time daddy with some part-time love
And I ain't stoopin' to your level, I gots to rise above
Appreciate I demonstrate, my ways could be much meaner
You be a clown and fuck around, I'm servin' you subpeonas
[Chorus: Repeat 2X]
The lyrics to Ed O.G.'s "Just Because" is a story of a troubled relationship between two people who had a child together. The song is divided into three verses where both parties express their views on the state of their relationship. The chorus states that just because they had a child together, it does not give them the right to treat each other badly. The first verse from the male's perspective reminisces about how they used to be in love, but he gained weight, stopped paying attention to her, and started sleeping around. He decides to move away from the drama and sees her only as his baby's father. The second verse is from the female's perspective. She criticizes the male for acting like a fool and monitoring her whereabouts. She feels that just because they have a child together, it does not give him the right to control her life. The third verse is a continuation of the female's perspective. She blames the male for not doing his fair share in raising their child and compares him to her gold-digging sisters.
Overall, the song is about two people who had a child together but are unable to have a healthy relationship due to their personal differences. They are struggling to co-parent and treat each other with respect. The song's chorus reminds them that having a child together should be a reason to work together, not a reason to treat each other badly.
