I am a poor boy too, pa-rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring pa-rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give our King pa- rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum
Shall I play for you, pa-rum pum pum pum

I played my best for Him pa -rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum
Then He smiled at me pa-rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum
"The Little Drummer Boy" is a song that tells the story of a young boy who visits the newborn King. The boy is initially unsure of how he can honor the King since he is poor and doesn't have any valuable gifts to offer. However, he realizes that what he lacks in material possessions, he can make up for with his drumming skills.
The first verse establishes the setting, with the boy being told to come and see the newborn King. He is accompanied by others who bring their finest gifts as an offering to lay before the King. The repetitive "pa-rum pum pum pum" represents the steady beat of the drum, creating a sense of anticipation and excitement.
In the second verse, the boy expresses his own poverty and the lack of a suitable gift. However, he offers to play his drum as a way to honor the King. This demonstrates his sincerity and willingness to offer what he can, despite his limitations.
The final verse reveals that Mary, the mother of Jesus, nods her approval, and even the animals in the stable join in and keep time with the boy's drumming. The boy plays his heart out, giving his best performance for the King. The King, in response, smiles at the boy and appreciates his humble offering.
