Porquê
Eddie Gonzalez Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Por Que
Me ases Tanto sufrir
Si yo nunca te negado
Si yo nunca te negado
Mi pobre Corazón

Por que
Dudas de mi amor
Si lo único que quero
Si lo único que quero
Es amar te mas y mas

Con el alma echo a pedazos
Poco a poco voy muriendo
No te da pena mujer

Olvidar te lo quisiera

Pero al verte me arrepiento
No te puedo ya olvidar

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Eddie Gonzalez's song Por Que ("Why") expresses the singer's confusion and pain at the treatment he is receiving from his lover. He wonders why she causes him so much suffering when he has never denied her anything and given her his heart. The next verse reveals that the source of his distress is her doubting his love for her, despite his constant desire to love her more and more. He bemoans the fact that his soul is slowly being destroyed and he wonders if she feels no shame for causing him so much pain. In the final verse, the singer admits that he wishes he could forget about her, but every time he sees her, he regrets feeling that way and knows he can no longer forget her.

Overall, the lyrics of "Por Que" convey a sense of unrequited love and the pain that can come from doubts and misunderstandings in a relationship. The singer's sadness is compounded by the fact that he is unable to forget about his lover, even though she is causing him so much distress. The use of repetition in the chorus ("Por Que") emphasizes the singer's confusion and the questions he has about his lover's motivations.

My youngest daughter was twelve when she heard this song. She didn't speak or understand Spanish, but she loved it and added me to buy it for her. Surprisingly she sang it beautifully, that's when I translated the whole song to her in English. She's now 32 and still loves it and sings it.

20 years of marriage to my husband. Ups and downs but I still love him very much. This was the song we danced to at our wedding. This song will always be special to me because I married my best friend. Second time around was the best thing I ever did. Love you James.
