Looking Through The Eyes Of A Child
Eddie Money Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What you know is what you are.
Hollywood is Shangri-La
Will you ever make your mind up there?

I see thunder all through the sky,
Heaven burning in your eyes.
In my dream I know that you still care.
Won't somebody show me the way?
Show me the way
To your heart?

Send me a wise man
Or book about love.
My breath has been taken.
I've been shaken.
You keep me waiting at the edge of the world!

On a rocky shore line,
Like the whim of the wild,
Oh what can I do now?
I want you now!
You've got me lookin' through the eyes of a child!

I don't know what to say or do.
All I know is I need you,
Like the desert needs the rain in May.

Won't somebody show me the way?
Please, show me the way
To your heart?

Send me a wise man
Or book about love.
My breath has been taken.
I've been shaken.
You keep me waiting at the edge of the world

On a rocky shore line,
Like the whim of the wild,
Oh what can I do now?
I want you now!
You've got me lookin' through the eyes of a child!

Won't somebody show me the way?
Please, show me the way…
To your heart?

Send me a wise man
Or book about love.
My breath has been taken.
I've been shaken.
You keep me waiting at the edge of the world

On a rocky shore line,
Like the whim of the wild,
Oh what can I do now?

I want you now!
You've got me lookin' through the eyes of a child!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Eddie Money's "Looking Through The Eyes of a Child" convey the desperation of someone deeply in love and in need of guidance. The beginning of the song talks about how your knowledge defines you and how Hollywood is seen as a paradise. This could be interpreted as the singer feeling lost and hoping for someone to show them the right path to take. The next verse seems to describe their longing for someone they love, saying they see "thunder all through the sky" and "heaven burning in your eyes." Even though this person may seem far away, the singer still believes they care.

The chorus repeats the main message of the song, with the singer pleading for help finding a way to the person's heart. They hope for guidance from a wise man or a book about love, feeling so overwhelmed that their breath has been taken away and they've been "shaken." The bridge talks about being on a rocky shoreline, feeling powerless to act and desiring their loved one's body and soul. The final line, "You've got me looking through the eyes of a child," suggests that the singer has lost their way and is seeing the world as if for the first time.

Overall, the song is about the vulnerability that comes with being in love and how it can make you feel like a child again, seeking guidance from someone wiser to help you navigate the complex emotions involved.

Beautiful song
When I lost my brother 3 years ago
I wished it was me instead of him
But every time I hear he's voice he
tells me that he will never be dead aa long as I keep him in my heart and remember each day that
God gave us all a time to Value and not waste. Now I give all my time to my husband, and family. AMEN!

I got the honor to go backstage and meet “The Money Man” when I was a Nevada Highway Patrol State Trooper….and I handed him a very nice NHP belt buckle to add to his personal mementos….and he had this huge smile on his face when he saw it was a law enforcement trinket and it was given to him from the members of the NHP with sincere appreciation….I’ll never forget that meeting and my heart will never be the same with his passing…..I miss you, Eddie, and all should listen to this underplayed but very significant song with succinct attention to the words! See you on the other side!

I cried the day Eddie Money died… He is one of my all time favorites. I never saw him live and I regret it to this day.

Should have been a massive hit for Eddie. Music industry, WTF?

@leicestergirl63

Exactly.

@JPMcFly1985

Yeah it was one of 3 new songs recorded for a 1989 greatest hits collection, it's melodic as fuck and would've been a huge hit if it was a single.
