Born in Kingston, Jamaica as Ripton Hylton, Eek-a-Mouse began his foray into reggae music when he was in college, but did not begin to garner a substantial audience until 1979 with his hit "Once a Virgin". This same year, he changed his singing name to "Eek-a-Mouse", the name of the racehorse he always bet on. In 1981, he cheered up the Reggae Sunsplash Festival, which was still mourning over the death of reggae icon Bob Marley. After this, his fame continued increasing through the year 1982 until 1988, when he released "Eek-A-Nomics", his last full-length CD until 1996.
Eek-a-Mouse is a regular at the Jamaican music festival Reggae Sunsplash and often teams up with reggae duo Michigan and Smiley. He has also been featured on Christian rock group P.O.D.'s (Payable on Death) album Satellite, lending his vocals to the rock-reggae track "Ridiculous".

Mumma said no money nah flow
Christmas a come
Mi mumma say no money nah flow
One pants mi have, she patch it
What a woman can sew
Mi take mi shirt an' cover it
She say, son remember before you go
Eat the chicken butt an' the rice
Weh deh pon di table also
Full your belly fully, boy
No better drop out of road
Christmas a come
Mumma said no money nah flow
She say he gwan an' take
He wan' money, she a gwan a so
One pants mi have, she patch it
What a woman can sew
Full your belly fully, boy before you go
Remember she say "Son, remember"
Remember, remember, remember, remember
Remember
Remember, remember, remember, remember
Christmas a come
Mumma said no money nah flow
Christmas a come
Mumma said no money nah flow
One pants mi have, she patch it
The lyrics to Eek-a-Mouse's song "Christmas A Come" depict a situation where the singer's mother cannot afford to provide a lavish Christmas celebration due to financial constraints. The repetition of the line "Mumma said no money nah flow" emphasizes the lack of funds and sets the tone of the song.
The first verse describes how the mother improvises to make do with what little they have. She patches up the only pair of pants the singer has, showcasing her resourcefulness and ability to sew. The singer then takes his shirt and covers the patched pants, hiding the imperfections. This illustrates the theme of making the best out of a difficult situation.
The second verse reveals the mother's advice to her son before he goes out. She urges him to eat the available food on the table - chicken and rice - to fill his belly fully before going out. This advice implies the importance of appreciating what they have and not wasting any opportunities. The mother emphasizes that he should not drop out of the proper path in life, suggesting that he should stay focused and not succumb to negative influences.
Overall, the lyrics speak to the resilience and resourcefulness of the family despite the lack of wealth. It portrays a message of gratitude and making the best out of a challenging situation during the Christmas season.
