Invoking names like Dance Gavin Dance, Russian Circles, and the Dear Hunter, Eidola was founded in 2011 by Andrew Michael Wells (vocals), Brandon Bascom (guitar, vocals), James Johnson (bass), Matthew Dommer (guitar, vocals), and Matthew Hansen (drums). The band self-released its 2012 debut album, The Great Glass Elephant. Two years later the group inked a deal with Dance Gavin Dance guitarist Will Swan's indie label Blue Swan Records and issued Degeneraterra. In early 2017 they dropped the single "Amplissimus Machina" ahead of the arrival of their third studio long-player, To Speak, to Listen, which featured guest spots from Joey Lancaster, ex-A Lot Like Birds bassist Matthew Coate, and saxophonist Nicholas Pope. Guitarist Brandon Bascom left the fold shortly after the album's release and was replaced by Sergio Medina. In 2021, Eidola unveiled the fiery "Counterfeit Shines," their first new single in four years. It appeared on their fourth full-length effort, 2021's Rise-issued The Architect. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi

Eidola Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
If there's a way out tell me now
While we're all still here
We're still waiting for you to take us away
And make us whole again
But you never came
And we never thought to ask why
We just lost belief by the day
Gained perspective by the hour
We found a way in
And it seems we're here to stay
We're still waiting for you to take us away
And make us whole again
But you never came
And we never thought to ask why
And you taught us not to question
Taught us not to ask why
Why?
We're still learning
With patience
With time
With understanding
Take us away
And make us all forget
That you'll never come
And we'll never care
The lyrics to Eidola's song "Jagannatha" are full of emotional depth and painful contemplation. The song is about the loss of faith in a religious figure, and the aftermath of that loss. The first stanza speaks of a man of pride, a heretic, who has set in motion one million eyes. This can be interpreted as a reference to a religious leader who has led many followers astray. The singer asks if there is a way out of this situation, while they are all still present and able to be saved.
The second stanza speaks to the disappointment and disillusionment that follows when the religious leader fails to come through for their followers. The hopelessness and loss of faith begin to set in, and the singer realizes that they never even questioned why the leader never came. The next part of the lyrics shows the passage of time and the growth of the singer's understanding of the situation. They found a way to move forward and are seemingly resigned to the fact that the leader is never coming back.
The chorus repeats the idea of waiting for the leader to take them away and make them whole again. However, it is clear that this will never happen, and the singer is left to learn and grow on their own. The final plea to be taken away and to forget the leader and their failed promises is a sad reflection of the pain and disappointment that come with losing faith.
Overall, the lyrics to "Jagannatha" are a powerful exploration of the human experience of loss and disillusionment. The song speaks to the pain of those who have been let down by a religious leader or organization and the journey towards healing and growth.
