Skaldens Song Til Tore Hund
Einar Selvik Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
i gløym-svevn kvilar
Kråka har kraksa i ørnereiret
Trudd seg ørna lik
Gjetord gjevt
vann du aldri
låk var din løn
Folket fylka
Flokkar fyl-g-de
Uår trossa
Bondehærs brande!
Fram fram Bondemenn!
Tore Hund han ris igjen!
Fram fram Bondemenn!
or gløym-svevn han ris igjen!
Sjølv etter han døde
nyt nidkongen føde
matar seg mett
på makt og visdomsøde
renkjespelt rykte
fekk vekse fram
fordummande veldet
forstummande veldet
tre utan næring
rotnar på rot
tre utan rot
...fell
Fram fram Bondemenn!
Tore Hund han ris igjen!
Fram fram Bondemenn!
or gløym-svevn han ris igjen!
The lyrics of Einar Selvik's song Tore Hund tell the tale of a legendary Norse figure who was both loved and feared in equal measure. The opening lines depict the death of the eagle, followed by the crow usurping its nest and mistakenly thinking it can take the eagle's place. This can be seen as a metaphor for the rise and fall of those who seek power but lack the necessary qualities. The next set of lines refers to Tore Hund's victory over a powerful enemy, the "Brottkongen", despite not winning any great riches or rewards, thus emphasizing his valorous character.
The following lines describe the rallying of the common people, despite facing famine and war, behind the banner of Tore Hund. This can be interpreted as a call to resist an oppressive ruler and unite for a greater purpose. The narrative then shifts to Tore Hund's death and the subsequent spreading of rumors and false tales about him by his enemies. The final lines depict the fate of a tree that has neither roots nor nourishment, highlighting the importance of foundation and sustenance.
Overall, the lyrics present Tore Hund as a heroic figure who embodies virtues such as courage, leadership, and loyalty. The call to action to the bondsmen, to stand behind Tore Hund, emphasizes the importance of unity in the face of adversity.
