The lyrics to Eldritch's song "Standing Still" depict a person who is torn between wanting to stay and play another round of a game and wanting to move forward with their life. The repetition of "Just a little more" in the beginning shows that the person is hesitant to let go of the past and move on to something new. They don't want to waste their time and seem to be pleading with another person to stay by their side for a little while longer. The chorus highlights the person's frustration with feeling held back by the presence of another, who they perhaps feel is obstructing their progress. They are conflicted, however, as they also desire this other person's company and would rather they "let [them] play" than obstruct their path forward.

The second half of the song changes tone slightly as the singer is asking the other person to dance with them and take their veils off. This alludes to the idea of vulnerability and intimacy, as one must strip away their layers (veils) in order to fully connect with another person. The singer desires to feel this level of closeness with the other person and asks them to "melt the dance floor", or essentially let go and immerse themselves fully in the moment. The final lines of the song suggest that the singer feels like they have been used or taken for granted, as they describe themselves as a "stepping stone", a "pebble", or an "old shoe" under the other person's feet. They are standing still, while the other person moves forward, and the singer is left feeling discarded and insignificant.
