Portugal
Eleven Pond Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In a parting lance, off to Mexico.
I asked to twice, then i say to go
Find sweet romance, down in Portugal.
I asked too nice, now you want to go
In a parting lance, off to Mexico.
I asked to twice, then i say to go
I asked too nice, now you want to go
In a parting lance, off to Mexico.
I asked to twice, then i say to go
Find sweet romance, down in Portugal.
The lyrics to Eleven Pond's song Portugal seem to be about a couple going through a breakup. The person singing had asked too nicely for their partner to stay, but they ultimately decided to leave, using the excuse of going to Mexico. The singer then reflects on how they asked their partner if he or she wanted to go to Portugal twice, presumably as a way to salvage their relationship and find some sort of romantic connection. The song is a reflection of the pain of heartbreak and the struggle to save a relationship that is slowly slipping away.
Through the imagery of travel and romantic destinations, the song's lyrics create a sense of movement and anticipation. The repeated use of the phrase "I asked too nice" adds a sense of regret and self-blame to the lyrics. The use of repetition also underscores the singer's sense of loss and desperation as they try to hold onto their relationship. The use of location names in the song further adds to this sense of travel and movement, adding a layer of visual detail to the lyrics.
Overall, Eleven Pond's Portugal is a haunting and melancholic song that explores the themes of love, loss, and longing. It captures the pain and uncertainty of a failing relationship, while also evoking a sense of hope and possibility through the idea of travel and romance.
