Elisa does not bother with superfluous questions; she advances and finds her style without setting any limits. The folk, pop, soul and even hip hop jostle.
2 years ago, she began posting her songs on myspace. Within months, more than 700,000 Internet users discovered them! Short after, she found herself playing these live, and supporting artists like Heart of Pirate, Yael Naim, Zaz, June & Lula, Ron Sexmith, Alela Diane ...).
Fellow French producer and musician Benjamin Biolay (Stephan Eicher, Keren Ann, Juliette Greco, Carla Bruni, etc...) heard her demos by coincidence and was immediately engrossed by her voice and personality. Elisa and Benjamin entered the studio and emerged a few days later with the debut EP "Back Around". With a handshake, Benjamin also promised to produce her first album.

You broke my wings I was about to fly
And I crashed so sadly that I cried
You cut my feet off I felt so violently I could die
Thought I was a child
But when I kick you out you’ll doff that smile
See I’m not so weak, whatever you think
Refrain
First it was to play then it has to stop
I see you turning off the light
And I know that means that you might
Start a fight, start a fight
Refrain
I’ll break your wings won’t be able to fly
And we will crash together side by side
I’ll cut your feet off we’ll fall so violently you and I.
In the song "The Fight" by Elisa JO, the lyrics in the refrain convey a sense of betrayal and pain caused by someone breaking the singer's wings, cutting off their feet, and causing them to crash and cry. The imagery of having one's ability to fly taken away and feeling violently hurt emphasizes the depth of the emotional turmoil experienced by the singer. These lines reflect a feeling of helplessness and vulnerability, as well as a reaction of intense sorrow and despair to the actions of the other person.
The following verse suggests a shift in power dynamics, as the singer asserts their strength and determination to no longer be manipulated or mistreated. By kicking the other person out and revealing their inner strength, the singer challenges the perception of weakness and asserts that they will not tolerate mistreatment. The mention of pushing, shoving, and watching one's back conveys a sense of readiness to defend oneself and stand up against any form of abuse or aggression. This part of the song showcases a transformation from victim to empowered individual.
The lyrics then describe a situation where the dynamics between the singer and the other person change, shifting from a playful interaction to a more serious and confrontational one. The mention of the light being turned off symbolizes a shift towards darkness and conflict, hinting at a brewing confrontation or fight between the two parties. The uncertainty and tension in the air are palpable, as both sides seem poised for a clash that is inevitable and perhaps long overdue.
The final refrain brings the narrative full circle, with the singer now threatening to break the other person's wings and cut off their feet, mirroring the harm they themselves experienced. The idea of crashing together and falling violently suggests a mutual destruction or downfall that both parties will face as a consequence of their actions. This escalation of conflict and retaliation highlights the cyclical nature of violence and harm, as well as the consequences of engaging in a destructive power struggle. Ultimately, the lyrics portray a cycle of pain, retaliation, and inevitable consequences that arise from toxic and harmful relationships.
