Cook's West Virginia-born mother played guitar and mandolin and sang on local radio shows. Her father, a Georgia native, also performed country music and served jail time for running moonshine. Upon his release, he and Elizabeth's mother played in local bands together, eventually marrying. Elizabeth, born in 1972, moved to Nashville in her twenties and quickly got a publishing deal. Demos recorded between 1997 and 2000 comprised her independently released debut album, "The Blue Album", which showcased her formidable songwriting ability and featured such well-known Music City musicians as Tim Carroll, Kenny Vaughan, and Rick Schell.
She made her major label debut in 2002 with "Hey Y'All". But following a corporate re-structuring that left the album virtually abandoned and stagnant on sales, Elizabeth fought back with her 2005 independent release "This Side Of The Moon", which received positive reviews.
Her album "Balls" was released May 2007. It was been her most successful album to date, thanks to glowing press reviews and significant video play for the song "Sometimes It Takes Balls To Be A Woman."
Her 2010 album Welder features appearances by an all-star roster of guests including Dwight Yoakam, Crowell and Buddy Miller, and continued her increasing popularity becoming her highest charting album in the U.S.
Her album "Gospel Plow" was released June 2012.
Cook hosts the morning radio show "Elizabeth Cook's Apron Strings" on the Sirius XM radio station Outlaw Country on Channel 60. The show airs weekdays from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM (Eastern Time). The show format is a mix of Americana, Outlaw, and Alt Country.
In 2016, Cook released her sixth studio album Exodus of Venus.

Stupid Things
Elizabeth Cook Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Like takin' vows an' buyin' diamond rings.
An' gettin' up to summertime flings.
Love makes you do stupid things.
Love makes you wanna buy a car.
Dress up like a big rock star.
Play like a Queen's and King's.
The unavoidable truth,
Is love's gonna make a fool of you.
Tie together your shoes,
'Cause you can't walk away.
Love makes you do stupid things,
Like forgettin' what a good friend means.
Runnin' every time the telephone rings.
Love makes you do stupid things.
Instrumental break.
The unavoidable truth,
Is love's gonna make a fool of you.
Tie together your shoes,
You can't walk away.
Love makes you wanna write a song,
Get everybody to sing along.
Rings from many a guitar strings:
Love makes you do stupid things.
Love makes you do stupid things.
In Elizabeth Cook's song "Stupid Things," she sings about how love can make people do foolish things that they wouldn't normally do. She mentions that love can lead you to make vows and buy diamond rings, suggesting that love often drives people to make impulsive decisions that they might later regret. She then goes on to say that love can also make you have summertime flings or want to dress up like a rock star. Essentially, when you're in love, your inhibitions are lowered, and you might find yourself making choices that are out of character for you.
Cook also points out that love can make you forget what a good friend means or run every time the telephone rings. This might suggest that people who are in love might neglect their other relationships in favor of their romantic partner. In the instrumental break, Cook seems to be emphasizing the power of love without saying anything at all--the music itself communicates the intensity of the emotion. Towards the end of the song, Cook sings about how love can inspire people to write songs and play guitar, further emphasizing the idea that love can have a profound effect on creativity.
Overall, "Stupid Things" is a song about the ways in which love can make people act in ways that they wouldn't normally behave. It suggests that love can be a powerful force that can lead people to make impulsive decisions and prioritize their romantic relationships over other important connections in their lives.

How is it possible this lady isn’t a mega star? She’s more “country” than most women singers on the radio today.
