What Goes On
Elizabeth Mitchell Lyrics

I think that I am falling down
What goes on in your mind?
I think that I am upside down
Lady, be good, and do what you should
You know it'll work allright
Lady, be good, do what you should
You know it'll be allright
I'm goin' up, and I'm goin' down
I'm gonna fly from side to side
See the bells, up in the sky
Somebody's cut the string in two
Lady, be good, and do what you should
You know it'll work alright
Lady, be good, do what you should
You know it'll be alright
One minute one, one minute two
One minute up and one minute down
What goes on here in your mind?
I think that I am falling down
Lady, be good, and do what you should
You know it'll work alright
Lady, be good, do what you should
You know it'll be alright
The song "What Goes On" by Elizabeth Mitchell is an introspective and contemplative piece that delves into the emotions and thoughts that can run amok in our minds. The repetitiveness of the phrase, "What goes on in your mind?" serves as a haunting mantra that echoes throughout the song. The singer expresses a feeling of uncertainty as she admits that she thinks she is falling down and that she is upside down. It is as though she is lost and disoriented, and she implores the listener to be good and do what they should because that will make everything alright.
The song takes on a surreal quality when she speaks of flying from side to side and seeing bells up in the sky that someone has cut the string in two. This creates an eerie and unsettling image that something has been drastically altered or damaged. However, the overall message of the song is hopeful as the singer reassures herself and the listener that if they are good and do what they should, everything will eventually work out.
In "What Goes On," Elizabeth Mitchell has created a thought-provoking piece that touches on the universal themes of doubt, uncertainty, and hope. The dark imagery contrasts with the message of the song's overall message of hopefulness, emphasizing the importance of staying positive even in difficult times.

Josh Done ... My feelings entirely Josh. I bought for my niece when she had her first child a while back and it's a great record. Mitchell's aproach is exemplary ... pure, competent, playful, and rockingy infectious.
