Santa Claus Got Stuck
Ella Fitzgerald Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney boo, boo, boo
Poor me
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
Stuck in my chimney, stuck in the chimney
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
When he came last year (poor Santa Claus)

Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
Stuck in my chimney, stuck in the chimney
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
He won't come back I fear (boo)

There he was in middle of the chimney
Roly-poly, fat, and round
There he was in middle of the chimney
Not quite up and not quite down

Santa, please, come back to my chimney
Back to my chimney, back to my chimney
Santa, please, come back to my chimney
You can come back here (please do)
'Cause daddy made a brand new chimney
Just for you this year

Oh Ella is a little girl
Who's trying to be good
Yeah I find that things don't always
Turn out as they should
Why just last Christmas Eve she waited up
For Santa to drop by
But I nearly missed him
And here is the reason why

Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
Stuck in my chimney, stuck in the chimney
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
When he came last year (poor Santa Claus)

Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
Stuck in my chimney, stuck in the chimney
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
He won't come back I fear (boo)

There he was in middle of the chimney
Roly-poly, fat, and round
There he was in middle of the chimney
Not quite up and not quite down

Santa, please, come back to my chimney
Back to my chimney, back to my chimney
Santa, please, come back to my chimney
You can come back here (please do)
'Cause daddy made a brand new chimney
Just for you this year

Santa Claus come on down the chimney, please come back this year

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ella Fitzgerald's song, Santa Claus Got Stuck In My Chimney, tell the story of a little girl named Ella who tries her best to be good but finds that things don't always go as planned. In particular, she waited up for Santa Claus to drop by on Christmas Eve, only to find that he got stuck in her chimney last year. The song uses repetition of the line "Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney" to convey the frustration that Ella experiences with this situation.

The lyrics also use descriptive language to create an image of Santa Claus stuck in the middle of the chimney. He is described as "roly-poly, fat, and round" and not quite able to move up or down. Ella pleaads with Santa to come back to her chimney, promising that her daddy has made a brand new chimney just for him this year.

The song can be interpreted as a lighthearted and humorous take on the troubles that can come with the holiday season. It also highlights the anticipation and excitement that children often feel leading up to Christmas, and the disappointment that can come when things don't go as expected.

Hard to understand why this isn't a more well known Christmas song, it's really cute and she has such a beautiful voice. One of my all time favorite singers.

@charles5596

Maybe because its 68 years old !

@greenvortex7

@@charles5596 "Santa Baby" by Earth Kitt is well known and it was recorded in 1953.

@curtieson

@@greenvortex7 - Shoot, "Baby It's Cold Outside" was written in 1944!

VirAmicusSpaceTime it’s because it sounds like an innuendo:
“Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney when he came last year”

First time i ever heard this was last week. Laughed my head off . A Scottish comedian back in the day ( Hector Nicoll ) would have called this "a risky disky ". Change one word from My to The and this would be played a lot more. While often presented as a playful Christmas song about childhood wonder, “Santa Claus Got Stuck Up My Chimney” by Ella Fitzgerald holds a much deeper and more suggestive meaning. Beneath the surface of its lighthearted melody and festive lyrics lies a double entendre rife with sexual innuendo.

Yeah
I said that!

❤❤❤I believe that Ella Fitzgerald's voice was the first I heard on our radio. She stamped her voice into my ears and heart since I can recall. Ella's will always be my number one singer.😊❤❤
