Someday You'll Be Sorry
Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The way you treated me was wrong
I was the one who taught you all you know
Your friends have told you to make me sing another song
So good luck may be with you
And for the future have no fears
There won't be another to treat you like a brother
The lyrics to Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong's rendition of Someday You'll Be Sorry seem to express a sense of regret and sorrow that the singer anticipates their former lover will feel at some point in the future. The singer appears to reflect upon the wrongs that were done to them by their former partner, suggesting that they were mistreated and that their ex was unappreciative of the things that they had done for them. The singer notes that they were the ones who imparted knowledge and wisdom to their former partner, and it was their instruction that helped shape their ex's character.
The chorus of the song repeatedly drives home the idea that someday the ex will realize the error of their ways and come to regret the way they treated the singer. The singer seems to hold no animosity or ill will towards their ex; instead, they wish them good luck and assure them that nobody else will treat them as well as the singer did.
Overall, Someday You'll Be Sorry is a poignant and bittersweet song about the consequences of mistreating someone who loves you deeply. The lyrics seem to suggest that karma will eventually come back around, and that no one can escape the consequences of their actions.

Pops was my first teacher. He was very very close friends with my beloved Grandmother Ruth H. Orr. I adored Louis, who took me under his wings. And let me work and valet , and stagehand for him early in my youth. I miss pops eternally. He was the Swiss Kris's man. My mentor, my dear dear friend and teacher.... The Angels attend him thru eternity....!!!! 🙏🙏🙏.

My mum used to take me to all the concerts at the beautiful Hotel Del in Coronado California where we lived. We’d sit it at a small round table close to the stage. I remember him bending over and taking to me with such a pure and sweet soul. That was almost 60 years ago and I remember it like yesterday. I was enchanted.
