Say Something
Ella Tiritiello Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Should paint your bedroom blue
to match your mood
Oh I just wish you’d break our fall
Or make the call

Your walls are way too thin
To keep it in
And even though I see it all
I wish you’d talk

The quiet blocks our view
Of what we’d be if you
Just
Say something
Let all your feelings out
Say something
Now
Say something
Let all your feelings out
Say something
Before we burn out

Is this the way it stops?
You can’t open up
So we just fade, oh, what a shame
Is it a-

Is it a little too late for us?
A little too much right now
Well, here we go, I guess
You lose a friend

But if you
Say something
Let all your feelings out
Say something
Now
Say something
Let all your feelings out
Say something
Before we burn out
Now

How hard can it be to speak?
That’s all I ask, oh wow

We’ve looked past and hoped we’d last
But I can’t save us now

But if you
Say something
Let all your feelings out

Say something
Before we burn

Overall Meaning

These lyrics are conveying the frustration and longing of the singer towards someone who is emotionally distant and unwilling to communicate their true feelings. The first verse uses imagery of painting a bedroom blue to match one's mood, suggesting that the person is feeling down or sad. The singer wishes this person would open up and either break their fall or make a decisive move by making a call.

The second verse highlights the thin walls, symbolizing the lack of emotional barriers that prevent the person from keeping their feelings inside. Despite the singer being able to see through this emotional façade, they still want the person to talk and express themselves verbally.

The chorus serves as a plea for the person to say something, to let their feelings out before it's too late and their relationship burns out. The quietness and emotional distance between them is obstructing their potential future together.

The third verse questions whether this is the end of their relationship, as the person's inability to open up makes them fade away. The singer wonders if it's too late for them, as the emotional burden becomes too much to bear, ultimately resulting in the loss of a friendship.

The bridge emphasizes the simplicity of speaking up and expressing oneself, as the singer desperately asks how hard it can be to communicate. They express disappointment in the fact that despite their efforts and hope for the relationship to last, they are unable to save it.

Overall, these lyrics express the emotional toll of being in a relationship with someone who struggles to communicate and open up. The singer longs for the person to say something, to let their feelings out before it's too late, and ultimately prevent their relationship from burning out.

@ehmzed

Last night I fell asleep with a song playing on Spotify in my earphones. Ten suggested songs later, I slowly got woken up by this song that had such a distinct, beautifully epic and full sound. I guess the progression and build-up in it was what woke me up from my sleep.
I felt like I somehow loved this song so much despite still being half asleep, and that waking state I was in probably contributed to making it sound even greater to my mind. It just sounded complete, with such beautiful instrumentals in the background.
I wasn't able to see what song it was before the next song started, but luckily I found it again through the Listenfing History section on the app and here I am. Really beautiful song, Ella! I'll definitely have to check out your other songs as well.
I also suggest that people listen to this in the morning to wake up or something, cause that was a nice little experience for me lol.
