Wrap Her Up
Elton John Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There are ladies, illegal X's
Mona Lisa's, well connected

They may be shady, English roses
Blue blooded, turn up noses

Money talks, see what it catches
Postage paid, no strings attached

She's a honey, she's a tramp
Roaring twenties, molls and vamps

[Chorus]
Wrap her up, I'll take her home with me
Wrap her up, she is all I need
Wrap her up, I only got one chance
Beast and beauties, but they all can dance

Wrap her up, I'll take her home with me
Wrap her up, she is all I need
Wrap her up, give her to me
Wrap her up

Is she foreign, legs eleven
Italian girls, take me to heaven

You pretty babies, from Paris France
Crazy horses, love to dance

[Chorus]

Give her to me, wrap her up
I'll take her home with me, wrap her up
She is all I need, wrap her up
I only got one chance, beast and beauties
But they all can dance

Wrap her up, I'll take her home with me

Wrap her up, she is all I need
Wrap her up, give her to me

Overall Meaning

Elton John's song "Wrap Her Up" is about a man who is enamored with a woman he sees and wants to take her home with him. He describes the different types of women he sees and how they are all unique in their own way, whether they are shady or blue-blooded. He speaks of the power of money and how it can catch people's attention, but also references women from different countries, such as Italy and France, showing his fondness for diversity in women. The chorus emphasizes his desire to "wrap her up," or take her home with him, to have her all to himself.

The lyrics of "Wrap Her Up" can be interpreted in different ways. Some may view them as objectifying women and reducing them to mere objects for men's pleasure, while others may see it as a light-hearted and playful song about attraction and desire. Nevertheless, the song was a commercial success, reaching #20 on the UK Singles Chart and #20 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

I used to love listening to this song every now and then. Even when it came on the radio on my way to school and all that. I loved every bit of the singing, especially George's. Good old George Michael. He'll never be forgotten.

@zuttajedi898

I remember watching this video constantly in the 80's and seeing my teenage sis screeching when George Michael finally comes on screen. Her and I are so devastated about George. Rest in Club Tropicana George. We miss you so much.

This was an amazing period, underated album and amazing tour , he used the band seen here and they were hot! He looked good and his show was great. 85-86 tour, I’ve seen ej over 70 times, 3 times on this tour…was one of my favorite tours.

@Alantheleopard

Aside of George´s GREAT fasetto voice, I think that another superb aspect about this videoclip is the combination or mixture of historical stuff on celebrities and similar scenes with Elton there. Quite an original video.
