Biography
ELUSIVE (Norway) marked 2001 with their outstanding debut, Destination Zero, an album that impressed fans and the music press alike from the very beginning. Contrary to what the album title suggested, mastermind Tommy Olsson and charismatic frontman Jan K. Barkved had a very definite idea of where they wanted to go; their sights were set on the rock zenith. Positive reviews all around, destination Zero was celebrated as "the best debut album since '86", and oustanding shows in their Norewegian homeland and at assorted festivals (M'era Luna 2002, Geel 2003 – Headliner, The Invitation 2004 – Co- Headliner) established ELUSIVE, strengthened by the addition of guitarist Kristian Gundersen to the line-up, as a force to be reckoned with on the international rock scene. Expectations were high with the release of the 2005 follow-up, The Great Silence, and it picked up seamlessly where the debut left off, taking the band one step higher.
In 2007, Destination Zero marks the next milestone in ELUSIVE's history – as the first track of their third album Locked Doors, Drinks And Funerals – Songs From The Desert. "It was meant to be the opening track of the same album, but it would have destroyed the balance" explains Olsson, the creative force behind the songwriting, mixing and production of the album. Developed and recorded between November and January in the band's Black Riders Studios, with the final mastering done by Inge Engelsvold at Dreamlab Studios, the songs on Locked Doors, Drinks And Funerals weren't created specifically for the album at the outset. "Some of the songs were written while we recorded, and others I've been writing on for years," Tommy reveals. "We've got a closet full of tapes and CDs, which are demos or more like sketches we record whenever we get inspired, but we never finish a song before the song gives us a sense or purpose to finish it. There's no timeline for good songs in the ELUSIVE universe so it doesn't matter if the idea was done last week or if it's 15 years old – as long as it's good."
There is a timelessness that defines ELUSIVE's individualism. The band works outside and independent of fashion and musical trends, concentrating instead on the essence of their art; an unlimited passion for writing songs.
Not only does ELUSIVE bridge the gap between tradition and modern edge, between fresh arrangements and polished melodies with ease, they remind people that there's more to Gothic Rock than contrived bombast and depression for the sake of image. ELUSIVE is about powerful guitar rock with a unique melancholic twist. Each track on Locked Doors, Drinks And Funerals has its own fascinating aura. So Destination Zero transports the legant and also frightening coolness of the modern industrial age while Into Your Arms seems to indulge in the endless warmth of the prarie "there wasn't a specific vision this time as opposed to our two previous albums. We just started recording and didn't think about where it was going," says Olsson. "Some of the songs point back to The Great Silence, others point to Destination Zero. And some of them are possibly pointing towards our next album, who knows? It's an evolving thing. But it still sounds distinctively ELUSIVE."
With Locked Doors, Drinks And Funerals, ELUSIVE in 2007 are focusing on their strengths: sophisticated lyrics backed by captivating melodies, heavy riffs and atmospheric keyboards, a path that has put them even higher on the peak of rock's Olympus.
Fading Rose
Elusive Lyrics

The day's fallen so dark,
And the joy I cannot remember,
It's falling apart.
You gave me the strength to go on,
But the shadows are growing.
On the hill, the gallows are swinging
In the wind, in the wind.
I float on a river tonight,
A river of tears you have cried.
I'll give you my heart, though it's broken,
For the one last dance
In the sun,
In the sun,
But I cannot see
The fading rose.
Now the tree has withered
And every morning's cold.
There's a road ahead of me,
But I cannot go.
The light looks so pale,
Promises few.
On the hill angels are singing
In the wind, in the wind.
I float on a river tonight,
A river of tears you have cried.
I'll give you my heart, though it's broken,
For the one last dance
In the sun,
In the sun,
But I cannot see.
The light looks so pale
And dark is the day,
And I cannot see.
I float on a river tonight,
A river of tears you have cried.
I'll give you my heart, though it's broken,
For the one last dance
In the sun,
In the sun,
But I cannot see.
And all of our hopes have been shattered.
The river run wilds.
I'll give you my heart, though it's broken,
For the one last dance
In the sun,
In the sun,
But I cannot see
The fading rose.
The song "Fading Rose" by Elusive paints a picture of desolation and despair. The lyrics describe a world that is uncertain and dark, with joy nowhere to be found. The singer, who has been given strength by someone or something, is now losing that power as the shadows grow. As the gallows swing ominously in the wind, the singer plaintively states that they cannot see the "fading rose."
The image of a river of tears is a powerful one, and it is repeated several times throughout the song. The singer offers their broken heart for a final dance in the sun, but cannot ignore the withered tree and cold mornings that await them. The light is pale, promises are few, and hope has been shattered. Nonetheless, the singer continues to offer their heart for that one last dance, even as the river runs wild.
"Fading Rose" is a song that speaks to the overwhelming feeling of hopelessness that can overcome us in difficult times. It acknowledges the pain and struggle of life, but also encourages us to keep going, to keep searching for that last dance in the sun.

In times so uncertain,
In these uncertain times,
The day's fallen so dark,
Everything seems bleak and dark,
And the joy I cannot remember,
I can't even remember the last time I was truly happy,
It's falling apart.
Everything is falling apart around me,
You gave me the strength to go on,
You were my source of strength when I needed it most,
But the shadows are growing.
But now the darkness seems to be closing in,
On the hill, the gallows are swinging
The gallows on the hill are swaying,
In the wind, in the wind.
In the wind, blowing ominously.
I float on a river tonight,
I'm drifting down a river tonight,
A river of tears you have cried.
A river made of the tears you've shed,
I'll give you my heart, though it's broken,
Even though my heart is broken, I'll give it to you,
For the one last dance
For our last dance together,
In the sun,
Under the warmth of the sun,
In the sun,
Repeating for emphasis,
But I cannot see
But I can't see
The fading rose.
The rose that's slowly wilting away.
Now the tree has withered
Now the tree has died,
And every morning's cold.
Every morning feels cold and empty,
There's a road ahead of me,
There's a road that lies ahead of me,
But I cannot go.
But I can't bring myself to move forward.
The light looks so pale,
The light around me looks weak and feeble,
Promises few.
There are very few promises to hold on to,
On the hill angels are singing
Angels are singing on the hill,
In the wind, in the wind.
Their song carried on the wind.
And all of our hopes have been shattered.
All of our hopes have been destroyed,
The river run wilds.
The river is raging out of control,
And I cannot see
And I can't see
The fading rose.
The fading rose that I long for.
