Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
Well, that long black train got my baby and gone
Train, train, comin' 'round the bend
Train, train, comin' 'round the bend
Well, it took my baby, but it never will again
No, not again
Train, train, comin' down, down the line
Train, train, comin' down, down the line
Well, it's bringin' my baby 'cause she's mine, all mine
She's mine, all mine
Train, train, comin' 'round, 'round the bend
'Round, 'round the bend
Train, train, comin' 'round, 'round the bend
'Round, 'round the bend
Well, it took my baby, but it never will again
Never will again
The song Mystery Train by Elvis Presley is a classic example of the blues genre. The lyrics convey a sense of loss and despair, as the singer laments the departure of their loved one on a long, black train. The repetition of the line "Train, train, comin' 'round the bend" creates a sense of foreboding and anticipation, as the train draws closer and closer. The use of train imagery is a common motif in the blues, symbolizing the journey through life, with all its twists and turns, and the unstoppable force of fate.
The lyrics of Mystery Train speak to the universal human experience of loss and heartbreak, and the unstoppable forces of time and circumstance. The imagery of the long, black train is a potent metaphor for death or separation, and the repetition of the train's approach amplifies the sense of inevitability. Furthermore, the sorrowful tone of Elvis's vocals adds to the emotional resonance of the song. The combination of these elements creates a powerful and haunting piece of music that has endured for decades.

Was at a recording session where they were doing a demo of it at Billy Swans house. Glen Hardin , Jerry, James Burton, all there. Jerry told me the story how Elvis was not feeling well and never finished the song.
Felton Jarvis felt it would have been his biggest hit since Burning Love.
I restrung the Tele for James to play. Billy told me the story behind his hit song " I Can Help". It was a priceless moment for me! Classy bunch of guys! Jerry asked me how I would arrange the song. Was shocked he wanted my opinion. I gladly gave it to him. He liked my idea, I was very honored, back then I didn't have much confidence in my producing abilities. Saw him years later when I was with James, he remembered the session. What's ironic, is that the arrangement here is pretty much what I had told him. Right down to the Sweet Inspirations, and James's solo. It was a great learning experience for me, will never forget this day!!
Hope you enjoy this! Great tune Jerry!

Elvis had a recording session scheduled for January 1977. He flew to Nashville for the session but never left his hotel room, complaining of a sore throat. That’s why Felton Jarvis, elvis’ producer, had to record songs on tour in Saginaw and Ann Arbor Michigan(Unchained Melody, Little Darlin,’ If you love me(let me know), & ‘Let Me BeThere’)to complete the ‘Moody Blue’ album.
