Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was a pioneer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. In 1955, drummer D. J. Fontana joined to complete the lineup of Presley's classic quartet and RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would manage the singer for more than two decades. Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel", was released in January 1956 and became a number one hit in the United States. With a series of successful network television appearances and chart-topping records, he became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, made him enormously popular—and controversial.
In November 1956, Presley made his film debut in Love Me Tender. Drafted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. He held few concerts however, and guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided. In 1968, following a seven-year break from live performances, he returned to the stage in the acclaimed television comeback special Elvis, which led to an extended Las Vegas concert residency and a string of highly profitable tours. In 1973, Presley gave the first concert by a solo artist to be broadcast around the world, Aloha from Hawaii. Years of prescription drug abuse severely compromised his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 at his Graceland estate, just 42 years of age.
Presley is one of the most celebrated and influential musicians of the 20th century. Commercially successful in many genres, including pop, country, blues, and gospel, he is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music. He won three competitive Grammys, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.
There's Always Me
Elvis Presley Lyrics

And you're wondering who to call
For a little company
There's always me
Or if your great romance should end,
And you're lonesome for a friend
Darling, you need never be
I don't seem to mind somehow
Playing second fiddle now
Someday you'll want me, dear,
and when that day is here,
Within my arms you'll come to know
Other loves may come and go
But my love for you will be eternally
Look around and you will see
There's always me.
The lyrics to Elvis Presley's song "There's Always Me" express a message of comfort, assurance, and devotion. The song is about a person who will always be there for the listener no matter what their situation may be. The opening lines, "When the evening shadows fall, and you're wondering who to call for a little company, there's always me," serves as a way of saying that the listener doesn't have to look far for companionship. The lyrics portray a person who is always available for the listener, providing a source of comfort, and will be there for them whenever they need them.
The song's second verse speaks of the person's undying love and devotion for the listener. Even if they are not the primary love interest, the person offers themselves as a backup, stating, "I don't seem to mind somehow playing second fiddle now. Someday you'll want me, dear, and when that day is here, within my arms you'll come to know other loves may come and go, but my love for you will be eternally." The song's message is about steadfastness in love and companionship, anchoring it in the concept of eternal love that will always be there no matter what else happens.
Overall, "There's Always Me" is a touching song that emphasizes the importance of being there for one another, and demonstrates the deep ways that love and companionship can provide comfort and assurance in times of need.

When the evening shadows fall,
As the sun sets and darkness approaches,
And you're wondering who to call
And you're looking for someone to talk to,
For a little company
To have someone to spend time with and feel less alone,
There's always me
You can always count on me to be there for you.
Or if your great romance should end,
If your passionate love affair comes to an end,
And you're lonesome for a friend
And you're feeling lonely and in need of a friend,
Darling, you need never be
My dear, you don't ever have to feel that way again,
There's always me
I'll always be here for you, no matter what.
I don't seem to mind somehow
I don't really have a problem with it,
Playing second fiddle now
Being in a supporting role, taking a backseat,
Someday you'll want me, dear,
One day, you'll realize how much you need me,
and when that day is here,
And when that day comes,
Within my arms you'll come to know
You'll feel safe and loved in my embrace,
Other loves may come and go
You may have other relationships that don't work out,
But my love for you will be eternally
But my love for you will never fade away,
Look around and you will see
Just look around and you'll realize,
There's always me.
I'll always be here for you, no matter what.
