The Other Woman
Emerald Caro Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For that man to give you a life
You keep on hoping
So this prince can save you
Keep on dreaming, his scandalous lie
For your love, is he the hero
Does he know that you begging him please
Where angles dare, the devil 's fill that need
At the start of his goodbye
Do you ever realize that you never get the chance
All you get is alibis
When smoke begins to fade
And you standing face to face
Does he kiss you in the way to say
You're the other woman, the other woman
Way that dress, the one you rely on
Slip up high, that shows off your wares
And when he's arriving, give him that invitation
Keep on wishing on his dollars and cares
For your love, he is your hero, yes
Even though you are begging him please, please
Woman unscared, your risks are never ending
And don't you pretend
You don't live what you breathe
At the start of his goodbyes
Do you ever realize
That you never get the chance
All you get is alibis
When smoke begins to fade
And you standing face to face
Does he kiss you in the way to say
You're the other woman, the other woman
You'll always be the other woman
You'll always be the other woman
Baby, trust me
I've been there before
You don't know him
I know him more
At the start of his goodbye
Do you ever realize that you never get the chance
All you get is alibis
When smoke begins to fade
And you standing face to face
Does he kiss you in the way to say
You're the other woman, the other woman
In Emerald Caro's song "The Other Woman," she explores the perspective of a woman who is in love with a man who is already in a committed relationship. The opening lines immediately set the tone, with Emerald admonishing the "little girl" to keep waiting for her "prince" to come and rescue her. However, as the song goes on, it becomes clear that this prince is merely a figment of her imagination, a scandalous lie that she continues to cling to.
The chorus, which repeats throughout the song, highlights the sad reality of the situation: the woman will always be the other woman, never the main attraction. She may dress up and use her wiles to try to keep the man interested, but in the end, she knows that she is merely a temporary distraction for him.
The song's lyrics are poignant and evoke a sense of empathy for the woman in question, as many people have experienced the pain of unrequited love. The imagery of smoke fading away and the woman standing face to face with the man she loves, only to receive nothing but empty promises and alibis, is particularly powerful.

Bebé, confía en mí, he estado allí antes

Caro's music will never age. It really sounds like it could have been made today. Wondrous talent!
@bexah6631
Her voice is smokey and haunting, she certainly has a magical effect with those gorgeous tones... I find myself spinning round into 1920s club lounges with piano and Mic centre stage, mystifying scenes designed with each pulse of the beat.... madame, you have me!

@thehumanityoflife6460
Yes, we do need to bring back the 1920's night club scenes.

This is one of my many favorite songs by Caro Emerald. This song has a very dark, smoky lounge sound to it, almost James Bondish or "Film Noir" sound. Takes me to a time before my time. ♥️
@W2mNm
How was she not used for a james bond theme song is exactly what I was thinking.
@chucku00
Every Caro's song is a story... not so much singers can claim that.
