In 1995, Christoph "Christ" von Freydorf (vocals) and Stefan "Fini" Finauer (drums), pupils of a convent school, founded the band together with Christoph's church choir friend Jamie "Citnoh" Richardson (bass guitar). They were joined by Stephan Karl "Moik" and Franz Wickenhäuser (both guitar). The band was founded in Hohenschäftlarn near Munich. The name Emil Bulls is derived from a children's movie.
In 1996, they recorded their first CD Red Dick’s Potatoe Garden themselves. The CD is in great demand today because of its small circulation. In 1997, they attended the Emergenza festival and finished third in the European competition. For this competition they hired DJ Paul Rzyttka (known as DJ Zamzoe) who afterwards became a permanent member of the band.
After a long tour, their album Monogamy was released by the indie record label Oh My Sweet Records. The record could only be purchased through the internet or during live shows. Monogamy was noticed by Island Records, which offered the band a recording deal. Some of the songs on Monogamy and a few new songs were recorded. The result was Angel Delivery Service, released in 2001. The album was already out of stock a few months later. A new edition was released including a cover version of A-Ha's "Take on Me". The songs "Smells Like Rock'n'Roll", "Leaving You with This" and "Take on Me" were released as singles.
In May 2002, Porcelain was released through Motor Music. "The Coolness of Being Wretched" and "This Day" were released as singles. Between June 2001 and August 2002, the band played 129 live shows including Rock am Ring. In August 2003, drummer Stefan Finauer left the band to go to university. He was replaced by Fabian Fab Füß. In 2003, the band played some shows in Canada and the United States.
On June 20, 2005, The Southern Comfort was released on Pirate Records. It was the last record with DJ Zamzoe.
In February 2007, the live and acoustic album The Life Acoustic was released. The album, which was recorded in Pullach in 2006, was followed by an acoustic tour.
The following album The Black Path was released on April 4, 2008, on Drakkar records. It is the hardest record of the band so far and was recorded in Hannover by Benny Richer (Caliban, Krypteria). The single "The Most Evil Spell" was offered as a free download.
In 2009, Chrissy Schneider left the band and was replaced by Andy Bock, who was the guitar player of From Constant Visions. On September 25, 2009, Phoenix was released. "Here Comes The Fire" was offered as a free download on their website. In September 2009, a music video of "When God Was Sleeping" was released.
The band's latest studio offering, Oceanic, was to be released on September 30, 2011.

Cross the fields of gold
There′s nothing I fear
I'm all in control
I′m ground zero of my kind
I feel life in every vein
A galaxy in my eyes
And a universe in mind
I have lied to you, lied to you
But I swear
I'll walk out of this
A better wiser man
I'm falling away from you
I′m falling away from you
A galaxy in my eyes
A universe in mind
Arise dear spring
And kill the envious doom
Arise dear spring
I was lost and drunken sailor
On the sea of sweet and sin
I cast my boat on every river
And let the sirens suck me in
Had no more aces in my hand
To save my castles made of sand
A galaxy of lies
A universe of vice
I have lied to you, lied to you
But I swear
I′ll walk out of this
A better wiser man
I'm falling away from you
I′m falling away from you
A galaxy in my eyes
A universe in mind
Arise dear spring
And kill the envious doom
Arise dear spring
I'm falling away
I′m falling away
I'm falling away from you
I′m falling away from you
I'm falling away from you
I'm falling away from you
A galaxy in my eyes
A universe in mind
Arise dear spring
And kill the envious doom
Arise dear spring
The song Arise Dear Spring by Emil Bulls is about someone who is on a journey of self-discovery and is realizing that they have been living a dishonest life. The first verse describes a feeling of complete control over their life, as they ride into the sunset across the fields of gold. They feel alive and empowered, with a galaxy in their eyes and a universe in their mind. However, they confess to having lied to someone close to them and swear that they will walk out of the situation as a better, wiser person.
The second verse paints a picture of someone who has been lost and indulging in various vices. They have been drifting aimlessly, allowing themselves to be pulled in by temptation and have nothing left to build with. They feel like their life has been a galaxy of lies and a universe of vice. The chorus repeats, stressing the importance of the arrival of spring to kill the envious doom that has been holding them back.
Overall, this song depicts someone who is going through a period of self-reflection and realizing the importance of honesty and positive growth.

As I ride into the sunset
As I move towards the end of a phase of life
Cross the fields of gold
Passing through an area of prosperity
There's nothing I fear
I'm not afraid
I'm all in control
I am the master of my own will
I'm ground zero of my kind
I am the starting point of my own identity
I feel life in every vein
I am fully alive, and conscious of my existence
A galaxy in my eyes
My vision is expansive, complex and deep
And a universe in mind
My imagination is vast and infinite
I have lied to you, lied to you
I have been deceitful
But I swear
But I promise
I'll walk out of this
I'll come out of this situation
A better wiser man
A person who has learned from their mistakes
Arise dear spring
A call to change and rebirth
And kill the envious doom
Destroy the negative forces that seek to harm
I was lost and drunken sailor
I was lost and consumed by vices
On the sea of sweet and sin
Caught in a cycle of pleasure and corruption
I cast my boat on every river
I tried to navigate every path available
And let the sirens suck me in
And was lured into temptation
Had no more aces in my hand
I had no more tricks up my sleeve
To save my castles made of sand
To rescue the things I built that were impermanent
A galaxy of lies
A universe of deception
A universe of vice
A world full of evil
I'm falling away from you
I'm moving further away from you
Arise dear spring
A call to change and rebirth
And kill the envious doom
Destroy the negative forces that seek to harm
