The Architects Of My Apocalypse
Emil Bulls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Darkness embrace me
Cast away the works of light
Wrap me up from sole to crown
Swallow me on the whole
I feel so safe in your womb
I devote myself to you
I want you to
Lock me up in your cage
Domesticate the beast in me

Hanging around in the darkest dungeons unbound
I live off
Live off the blood
Of the architects of my apokalypse
(For another round)

Blackness caress me
Let me drown in your depths
Glamorize my blind side
Leave your mark on my pride
The smell of fornication
Bad conscience and guilt
I want you to
Lock me up in your cage
Domesticate the beast in me

Hanging around in the darkest dungeons unbound
I live off
Live off the blood
Of the architects of my apokalypse

Lock me up in your cage
Domesticate the beast in me
Lock me up in your cage
Domesticate the beast in me

Hanging around in the darkest dungeons unbound
I live off
Live off the blood
Of the architects of my apokalypse
For another round

Hanging around in the darkest dungeons unbound
I live off

Live off the blood
Of the architects of my apokalypse

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Emil Bulls’s “The Architects of My Apocalypse” convey a desire to embrace darkness and be consumed by it. The singer is asking for the darkness to envelop them and to be protected from the light. They feel safe in the darkness’s womb and want to be locked up and made to feel tame. There’s a sense of submitting oneself to their own inner demon, to let it out, and be dominated by it.

The reference to architects of the apocalypse indicates that there are individuals who have contributed to the end of the world or the singer’s own personal Armageddon. Whether these architects refer to physical people or the inner demons that live within all of us is up for interpretation. Regardless, the singer is feeding off their blood and is living off their misery.

The song is open to interpretation and it could be seen as a darker musical version of the saying “the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.” The singer is happy to be locked up in darkness because they’d rather be consumed by their own darkness than face the unknown. Perhaps it’s a commentary on depression, addiction, or mental illness. Or maybe it’s just a song about enjoying the darker things in life.
