He Thinks I Still Care

Just because I spoke his name somewhere
Just because I rang his number by mistake today
He thinks I still care
And just because I haunt the same old places
Where the memory of him lingers everywhere
Just because I'm not the happy girl I used to be
And if he's happy thinking I still need him
Let that silly notion bring him cheer
But how could he ever be so foolish
Oh, where would he get such an idea
And just because I ask a friend about him
Just because I spoke his name somewhere
Just because I saw him and went all to pieces
Oh, he thinks I still care
And if he's happy thinking I still need him
Let that silly notion bring him cheer
But how could he ever be so foolish
Oh, where would he get such an idea
And just because I ask a friend about him
Just because I spoke his name somewhere
Just because I saw him and went all to pieces
Oh, he thinks I still care
The lyrics of Emilie-Claire Barlow's song He Thinks I Still Care depict a situation where the singer's ex-partner thinks that she still has feelings for him because of certain actions. The song consists of two verses and a chorus that are repeated twice. The first verse explains that the singer has asked about her ex-partner from a friend, mentioned his name somewhere, and accidentally dialled his number. The second verse explains that the singer visits the same places that they used to frequent when they were together, and her changed behaviour is being perceived as a sign that she still cares for him.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the idea that the singer's ex-partner is being foolish to assume that she still has feelings for him. The singer tries to convey the fact that she has moved on in her life, and her ex-partner's assumption is incorrect. The repetition of the chorus reflects the singer's annoyance at her ex-partner's foolishness.
Overall, the lyrics of the song address the false assumptions that people may have about one's feelings. The singer tries to communicate that she has moved on with her life and is not interested in her ex-partner anymore. The song conveys a sense of frustration with the ex-partner's inability to understand the communication and misinterpretation of normal occurrences as a sign of affection.
