Emily says she tries to avoid "cheesy" movies, and her big break came when she was on a press tour in LA for 'Ghost Ship' (2002) that was filmed in Australia and released in America. In the same year, she won an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Young Actress, and was nominated for the same award the next year. Emily received some scripts when in LA and sent in a video audition for 'Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events' (2004). She received a call and was asked to come to LA for a proper audition, which won her the part. She spent months in LA filming, for the second time acting opposite Billy Connolly. Emily said she enjoyed the experience of making a big budget film in America, and says that although she's not sure what is coming next, she's hoping to do some more Australian work.
SWEET DREAMS
Emily Browning Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to be abused
Emily Browning's version of Sweet Dreams is a haunting and ethereal rendition of The Eurythmics' classic hit. The opening line, "Sweet dreams are made of this" suggests the dreamlike quality that permeates the rest of the song. The lyric "Who am I to disagree?" implies that the singer is in a state of surrender to these dreams. The lines "I travel the world and the seven seas" suggest that the dreamer is exploring the world through their subconscious mind. The repetition of the phrase "Everybody's looking for something" reminds us that our desires can propel us through life, often unknowingly.
The later lines of the song depict the darker side of human nature: "Some of them want to use you, some of them want to get used by you, some of them want to abuse you, some of them want to be abused." This illustrates the harsh reality that people can use and abuse each other in pursuit of their own desires. The song may be interpreted as a warning about being careful who you trust and remain vigilant when it comes to others' intentions.
