After a brief stint as an intern with OMG Entertainment, in Greenville, SC, Emily was introduced to producer, Dan Hannon (Manchester Orchestra, A Rocket To The Moon, Aaron Shust), in May of 2008. Hannon’s initial impression was very favorable, and he agreed to help Emily develop her style and ‘find her voice’ as an artist. In the ensuing months, Emily wrote and demoed an astonishing 80 songs. “It’s rare to find an artist as dedicated and as driven as Emily”, says Hannon. “There are plenty of artists who expect to show up and have a career delivered to them on a silver platter”. Emily has greatly enjoyed and benefited from working alongside Hannon. "Dan is the one who pushes me to be the best--always raising the standard. He keeps me focused on the important things, even when it's difficult, and I've grown to appreciate and respect him for it. We make a good team and I am a better artist because of his influence" , says Lynch.
Emily’s much-anticipated self-titled debut album has been recorded, mixed, and mastered, and is slated for a February 15, 2011 release on the newly formed Eldest Only Recordings label.
Balancing her life on the road, Emily co-writes frequently across the States, including collaborations with some of the best and brightest writers in Atlanta, Nashville, and Charleston. Always writing and creating new melodies, Emily has penned over 60 new songs since she finished her debut. Lynch muses that “that kind of discipline is the least I can do, if I’m trying to follow in the footsteps of the greats---Emmy Lou Harris, Loretta Lynn, Patty Griffin, and Alison Krauss”.

On My Way
Emily Lynch Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sometimes it was tough, but we had enough
You taught me to laugh said a smile'd keep me young
To live strong and love cause love is enough
The years rolled by fast like the clouds in the sky
I'd give half my heart to know you're by my side
I'm on my way and I need you to say that you're watching me
Up over the mountains and seas
And I need you watchin'
I need you watchin'
You'd play your 12-string and I'd dance around
Oh what a sound, us singin' aloud
Out by the graveyard you taught me to drive
Felt like I could fly with you by my side
Now time is a match burstin' bright like a spark
The flame burns out fast then it's cold and it's dark
I'm on my way and I need you to say that you're watching me
I'll be okay I'm just breakin' away
Up over the mountains and seas
And I need you watchin'
Oh I need you watchin'
I need you watchin'
I need you watchin'
Oh I thank God for you
I'm a child of all his good graces
My brother, my sisters, everyone I remember
I see you in all of their faces
Oh, Daddy
I'm on my way and I hope and I pray that you're watchin' me
I'll be okay I'm just breakin' away
Over the mountains and seas
I'm on my way and I need you to say that you're watching me
I'll be okay I'm just breakin' away
Up over the mountains and seas
And I need you watchin'
Oh I need you watchin'
I need you watchin'
I need you watchin'
You taught me to laugh said a smile'd keep me young
Just live strong and love cause love is enough
The song "On My Way" by Emily Lynch is a tribute to her father who has been a guiding light and support system throughout her life. The first verse talks about how he has raised her with love and care, even in tough times. He has taught her the importance of laughter and a positive attitude, and that love is what really matters in life. The second verse reminisces on their memories together, with the father playing guitar and the daughter dancing to the music. He has also taught her how to drive and she felt fearless with him by her side. The bridge of the song expresses the singer's gratitude towards her father and how he has shaped her into the person she is today, reminding her of him through her siblings' faces.
The chorus of the song opens with the singer stating that she is on her way and needs her father's blessing as she embarks on a new journey. She also reassures him that she will be fine on her own as she breaks away from the family's protective shell. She acknowledges that she is heading out to an unknown world, but it doesn't matter as long as he is watching over her.
Overall, the song conveys a sense of appreciation and love towards the father for all that he has done and a sense of hopeful determination as the singer takes her first steps towards independence.
