Drift
Emily Osment Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am just another number
Stack me up I'll crumble
And drift along

I am just another nothing
Light me up I'll fall in
And then be gone
Lalay lalay lalay
Oh
Lalay lalay lalay
Oh
Lalay lalay lalay
Oh

I am well suited
for erasing
Fading into hazy
I'm sinking strong

Lalay lalay lalay
Oh
Lalay lalay lalay

Oh
Lalay lalay lalay
Oh

And then it's all
over and done

Lalay lalay lalay
Oh
Lalay lalay lalay
Oh
Lalay lalay lalay
Oh

Lalay lalay lalay
Oh

Well suited for erasing
Lalay lalay lalay
Oh

Fading into hazy

Lalay lalay lalay
Oh

I'm sinking
strong

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Drift" by Emily Osment convey a feeling of insignificance and a sense of surrender to the tides of life. The singer acknowledges that they are just another number, another nobody and is well-suited for erasing or disappearing altogether. The lines "stack me up I'll crumble and drift along" and "light me up I'll fall in and then be gone" are a testament to this feeling of being easily replaceable and not having any control over their own existence. The repetition of "lalay lalay lalay" further emphasizes the idea of drifting, of being carried away by the currents without any sense of direction.

The second verse continues this theme, with the singer saying that they are "fading into hazy" - becoming less and less visible, less substantial. They are sinking, but also strongly so, as if clinging to their own existence despite feeling like they don't matter. The repetition of "Lalay lalay lalay" once again emphasizes the idea of surrender, of letting go and allowing oneself to be carried away by the current of life.

Overall, "Drift" is a song that expresses a feeling of insignificance, of being lost in the crowd, and of accepting one's own impermanence. The lyrics are simple yet powerful, and are supported by the dreamy and melancholic melody.

No matter how many times i watch this movie, i will never get bored. I love this movie so much and Emily Osment's acting was like so natural. How can people not like the movie? It has such a nice meaning. Such a bitter truth and the way teenagers are bullied. Its so sad. I support all the victims of Cyber Bully. I hope you feel better someday.... :) :( :)
